Default Autothority Chip

I know this has been discussed a while back ( I did a search) but I have not read anything conclusive either way. Is it worth it? Will it make a difference? Anything to lookout for? If I missed a previous thread, please point me in the right direction.
Thanks
Ron

Hi Ron
I have it and yes it makes the 993 come alive. Well worth it.
Check to see if they have one with this particular program.
It makes a huge difference and well worth the money.
Add a SuperCup exhaust and you'll be very happy. Chris

Chris
Did that come from Autothority or from another reseller? I just got an ear full from Autothority who would not discuss much with me

What does that mean? Do they sell the chips or what?

I've done a small amount of research on this as I intend to make the change as well. My recollection is that I was heavily leaning toward the Steve Wong chip for a few reasons:

Nothing but praise from the customers that I have seen.
Money back guarantee if you don't like it
Makes power on 91 octane, not just 93 (not available in CA)

My memory might be a bit fuzzy, but this is my opinion.

Also, I'm always a sucker for a great deal but I wouldn't buy software of this type from an Ebay seller or otherwise. I'd stick with an authorized retailer or manufacturer to ensure the software you get is the correct version that has been carefully engineered and not some cheap copy.

Good Luck and let us know how it goes!

Yes they do sell them, but when I started talking about specifics, such as the post from Chris, they went on about people on Ebay selling illegal items and they could not discuss specifics with me. I guess if I pulled out my credit card they would have, but this whole thing is weird. There is someone selling what they call an Autothority chip on Ebay at much lower prices.

I wouldn't buy a chip on eBay even if you guys paid for it and if you did, there's no way in hell I'd install it.

It never ceases to amaze how people can buy a fine car like a Porsche and then try to use the Honda/Ghetto/Welfare street racer idea of modification. It's a lose-lose situation in my book!

Don't be a scrooge with your 993 and try to save a couple of hunded bucks, buy the real deal from Autothority and get the real deal, period!

I agree with you. The problem is that, as a seller of legitimate items on Ebay, I try to give others the benefit of the doubt. One other thing worth mentioning, Autothority is taking $100.00 off the retail price which means that the cost is now $295.00!

That is a nice price. Do you know if the chip provides gains when used with 91 octane fuel? Do you have 93 octane fuel in Florida? This is something to verify otherwise you may end up with a chip that doesn't provide any real world benefit since it isn't optimized for the available fuel. Kind of like buying a chip designed to run with 100 octane fuel - it's useless unless you are running race gas.

Look forward to your continued feedback on this purchase!

The cup chips for the 964 and the "RS" chips for the 993 that are sold on eBay are actually old Autothority software. Bosch is the owner of the copyright on the software so the aftermarket tuners can't do anything legally about it. The tuners are screwing the porsche owners and then getting screwed by the POS counterfeiters that basically run eBay.

The original software maybe. Don't the various chip reprogrammers/sellers copyright their maps? Certainly there's intellectual property there by any definition.

I totally agree with ZP44.
Buying on an internet auction site for a chip? Madness. Got to be far better off buying one from the manufacturer, at least you have somewhere to go if you need help afterwards.
Porsches deserve better.

ok Latest from Autothority.
Chip is now $295.00 for 1995 and $595 for 96-98
Claimed horsepower gain (all NA models) : 15
Claimed Torque gain (All NA Models): 13
So shall we try and negotiate a group buy?

I would be interested in a group buy.

What about GIAC or Steve W's chip?

I'm also a seller of legitimate items at eBay and have learned that not all eBay sellers are like you & I.
