I bookmarked this excellent SAI DIY by Rob Kwate - it is worth a read; however, the images will not retreive for me. Regardless, the write up is nicely self-explanatory.

Your fix could be as simple as replacing the SAI Check Valve, which in all of our cars gets rusted open and should probably be replaced anyway. A few significantly less expensive items to check (SAI check valve, flush, etc.) off the list before you jump to the conclusion of "bad valve guides" especially where you have ok oil consumption.
