OT: What is it with white?
I'm scaring myself.
It started with a mini about three months ago. Nothing special, but a 'pepper white' Cooper S with black roof and black stripes. I thought... mmm... that's not half bad, rationalising it by the fact that because it was kinda off-white, it didn't count.
Then the Golf came along. Mk. V, GTi, three door, and that was as white as an Irish girl's ***. And, oh the shame! I thought... mmm... maybe I should have bought my GTi in white.
But today... oh... today was the clincher. I saw my first GT3. My god it was a thing of beauty. Lithe curves, angry roar. But the color. By god. I have never, never felt as strongly about a color as I did about that one. AND IT WAS WHITE!
Now let me put this in perspective. I'm from Israel. There, nowadays, about 70% of cars are white. When I was growing up, 99.99999999% of cars were white. I HATED white! I know the sun destroyed other colors, and the "Hamsin" sandstorms acted like a brillo-pad on paint, but owning a white car, usuall a Subaru Leona, was admitting that you just turned up and picked up whatever the dealer had on the lot (invariably white). Throughout time, and wherever I went everyone has always pretty much agreed.
So what's happened? Today, I was sitting with a friend in the bright red cacoon of the TT when the GT3 streaked past. We waxed lyirical on the car... hyperbole and lust dripping from our mouths. But then we stopped... the pause pregnant. He looked at me, and almost guiltily stumbled: "..and I love the color"...
Oh how we laughed the laugh of guilt.
Anyone else finding themselves going against their better instincts? We should not... ney, cannot, like white...
...unless it's a white 993 of course... I hear they have the fastest engines (Insert flame here)

Im with you brother - I vowed never to own a white 911. My pickup is white cause I bought it off the fleet lot. My wifes SUV is white cause it was a demo and really good price. I owned a white ford before that. Plus Ive always heard that white is a dangerous color in snowstorms or if you get caught in a snow drift - an important factor in Southern California.
I like the looks of the white 911, but I was just tired of that color even though they have the strongest motor....

I too was a wanderer at first (but not in the desert), and my first Porsches in the late '60s were Silver (356), dark blue (356), desert sand (912, and close to the desert), red (911L), silver(911)....and then I saw the light, so to speak...'73 911 WHITE, and all white since including my current 993 and 964 (and the 993 prior). OK, so I bought a fully restored Red '61 Roadster in '02, but everyone falls off the wagon now and then!
My white 993 and 964 are much faster than the red '61 Roadster....FACTUAL information that white cars have the stronger motors!

I used to dislike white 911's but have grown to really like them. Alot. Although I feel that polar silver shows off the sculptural qualities of the 993 best, white functions in a similar manner.
