from Fabspeed? I'm looking at the RSR mufflers and also getting some sort of Cat Bypass Pipes. Do the pipes yield any performance gain? Also the High Performance Air Intake System. If anyone can shed some light onto these products that would be appreciated.

Yes, they said OK but complained about one of the pipes hanging quite low. Dach systems do a lovely looking/sounding by pass and that with RSRs will sound great. Cat is very restrictive so removing or swapping for sports cats will yield extra power. Silencers make no difference. I don't trust the air intake gizmos.

Try searching on your topics and you'll find much more...

The people complaining about pipes hanging low apparantly object to something that you have to look for to find, the left side crosses under the right side

The combination of bypass and RSR is loud, it sounds good but loud, wouldn't be LRP legal by a long shot, bypass and stock is much better, sounds great and LRP legal(barely)

On a '96 up there is going to be an issue w/ the extra set of O sensors, some people zip tie them out of the way, I have ne experience w/ that but have heard that it works, some have reported stinky exhaust as a result, my car is fine but I have smelled a few that were terrible, I suspect that if there are oil burning issues, perhaps not visible, the cat may mask the odor of burtnt oil. On a '95 no isssues wrt to the O sensor.

The big advantage of a cat pass is the weight reducton in a critical spot, This helps handling.

I had Fabspeed cat by-pass pipes for long time and had no complaints (except for the resonance).

I don't have them anymore though, I changed the whole system headers included with partly German, partly USA/Finn (I fabbed myself) made set-up.

My car came with bypass pipes and a stock exhaust. It sounded great, was LRP legal (I don't know by how much) and was absurdly emissions noncompliant. I could not continue distressing the environment for sound, and I needed to pass emissions anyway. I put the cat back on and got used to the oem sound. There is zip difference in power.

I have the Cat by-pass pipe from DACH and the RSRs. Its loud and the smell is rough. However, the sound is awesome and the car feels snappier.

Just got the Sport Cat system in from DACH that I'll be installing this week. Hope to get it dyno'd but need to figure out how to disconnect the Viscous Coupler first.

Might be selling the Cat-by-pass pipe if anyone is interested.

Any trouble with CELs? I have been thinking about these for my TT. I understand the dealer can turn off the CEL, but then it doesn't come on for anything else.

What's with the smell comments?

Is it the sort of fuel smell, kinda like old cars used to smell? I like it.

Mr. three Allow me to show you what my DACH pipes look like. The smell Keith speaks of is that of unfilter exhaust (yes Finn similar to the old muscle car smell, but no carb mix). There have been no CEL's (that I have been made aware of) in 20 something pipes sold this year. The issues with other brands is that they hang down past the bumper cover and look bad (the 2 shots of the blue car are from the incorrect angle to be able to see it in proper view). They are hand made 304 SS all TIG welded and create no resonance. They have recently been rumored (via dyno) to put out as much as 20 hp (jury is still out on the exact #). I make no claim to that, the test was not done by me. They are however being redyno'd in the cat system form very soon and I will be reporting back.....good bad or indifferent.
You may want to contact Keith (Kdurg) about the pipes coming off his car.......may give you a great deal
PM me if you are interested, I do not talk about price here (out of respect). I will say that they are not as cheap is others........but neither is the quality

I have the Fabspeeds. Their quality is great, sound is awesome, and I have a '96 and have hung the secondary O2 sensors out of the way. Not sure on the price new, I got them from a Rennlister who had ordered the wrong (Gillette vs. Bischoff or vice versa, can't remember) type, only $300!

That is what I get from cat free cars, that good, old smell.

When I brought the first of several pre-'68 cars home, with carbs and vented fuel systems, my wife was very concerned about the "smell in the garage". She never knew a car with carbs, etc.!
