HRE 542's- sell or keep, can't decide
The PO put these wheels and tires on the car a few months before I bought
it ( '97 C4S) and I've been thinking about what to do with them ever since.
I'm probably would have gone with something else but they are great wheels, from what I can tell they are made very well, I guess they're just not
my style of wheel. I'm thinking of a BBS RS-GT's, maybe something else.
Any market for wheels like these (18 x 8 and 18 x 10). Would they fit
a narrow body car? Just want some feedback.
Thanks

Bruce,
Those are very nice and expensive wheels. You should be able to easily sell them. However, unless there is a spacer in the rear, these will only fit the wide-body cars.

Have you considered getting the centers refinished in black or a nice medium grey? They look like nice wheels, but I think they would look better with darker centers.

You know, I thought about that, refinishing the centers might just make a
big difference. Wasn't there a recent thread on that, seems like I remember
somebody having theirs done. Sure would be the less expensive way to go.
Would powder coating be the best way to go? Seems like the most durable...

I really want a set of hollow spoke wheels with dark grey centers to match the grey S on the rear. Haven't figured out how to do it though. Powder coating seems perfect if you can get your color. Black should be easy.
A friend just had his DAS roll bar powder coated for about $100, so it seems much cheaper than paint as well.

I noticed on the Wheel Enhancement website that these wheels are available with grey or black centers, but was unable to find a picture.

I like the idea of powdercoating too. So much, that I am ready to do the same; I just bought my 98 C2S, and the PO installed 18" HRE 543Rs. While I don't dig the polished look too much, I can't wait until get the centers powdercoated a dark grey. The problem is that HRE recommends send them back to their shop to have all the work done, and that is not cost effective. They will not sell me new bolts, and it is highly recommended that new bolts are used when putting them back together. Many of the local shops won't mess with them either. So, I will wait unitl the funds are there, and then do the deed. When I get them done i will certainly post pictures, but look forward to seeing yours all done.

Guess I better get costs from the wheel people before I start the process. New bolts does not sound like a cheap proposition. Not to mention the cost of the
painting....I do think it would be an improvment to my eye, just not sure
if it makes financial sense.
Anybody price the BBS RS-GT's? Not cheap either I suspect.

Bruce, I think they would look great with a painted center as mentioned by others. A fellow RL sold his black 993TT with the same wheels, black centers. Looked incredible! Otherwise post them, I'm sure someone will pick those up quickly.

Unless you like the slanted 5 spoke look, IMHO you should just sell these...painting them a different color is just a way for them to look acceptable to you and I would guess they would still not be your first choice. These are high quality, strong, light wheels and depending on the condition you could probably get 60-75%+ of their original cost. I would guess that to properly paint these you will need to spend $600-750...quite a bit of money and I think you'd be much better off get the rims that YOU really want.
Just my $0.02.
