As the father of a 19 yr old daughter, I am deeply saddened by this accident and will keep the parents in my prayers.......ZP44

PS: this is exactly why I keep all the keys to my 993 in my safe when I'm not home or driving it!

Interesting comment from someone on the board that it was a tip. Sure they are easier to drive, but do you guys really think that a manual trans will keep a teen from going on a joy ride?

Also, 100 does not seem that fast on the 241 if there was not a lot of traffic. She must have been driving very reckless. Glad she did not take anyone else out....

It's sad to see these things but they happen every few minutes on our roads.
If this were a Toyota Camry you would never hear about it.
The fact that it was a Porsche makes it sensational and always seems to add the blame on the driver
of the sports car. Maybe she was just going 80mph and had a blow out or someone cut her off.
The news always gives numbers above 100 when there's a high end car involved.
Look all the stuff that's still going around about the Enzo! Chris

sad all the way around for everyone. feel bad for the girl & family. thankful no one else was killed. looked to be an older 996. cab possibly? she lost her head? _puke_ (glad that link was pulled).... wonder if i would have even clicked on it). not.

i'll take it as a reminder of how fast 100mph really is. as we all know, p-cars once @ hwy speed reach 100plus quickly.

ever look down @ the speedo & go: "oh ****" ????

from the looks of that pile/heap... i'm thinkin' 100 plus easy. that toyota could have merged over (of course not seeing he 996) & the speeder responded losing control. amazing how under control & reponsive 911's (& other well designed autos) feel until control is lost. unfortunately this little 18 year old life can't even learn from her mistake. really too bad/sad. - hope her spirit was right.

I was just emailed the pics from a friend and it's really an eye opener to say the least. Things can really change in an instant. So young and so sad. I couldn't even imagine. Be careful out there.

How many of us - let alone an 18yr old, can really recover from a high-speed loss of control in these cars..
Very sad, and a reminder about the capabilities and risks we face when driving high-performance machines.

She was on the other side of the road heading the opposite direction from the booth plaza and crossed all the oncoming lanes before hitting the exit side of the toll booth.

Tragic for the Family.......

My heart goes out to the family and friends. What a shame.

At least she only felt a few seconds of fear.

The toll plazas in that stretch of the road are off the main part of the road. You pay the toll and then get in the acceleration lane, then enter the toll road.

This is one of the most heavily patrolled roads around for this exact reason. Everyone thinks it is their own personal racetrack. There are tons of CHP and now there will be more.

If you link to the story.. they are saying she took the car (the father had reported it stolen), was reported by other motorists for erratic driving, was passing the other car at an estimated 100mph when she clipped the car and went across the highway and into the back of the toll booth. Killed on impact. There were open alcohol containers in the car but it has not been determined if that was a contributing factor.

Some of the other forums have been especially harsh on the driver. She was young, she made a mistake and she paid with her life in the blink of an eye and in the most brutal of ways. How many of us have done something incredibly irresponsible and lived to see another day? Very, very sad.
