993 is Back on the Road....Not an Immobilizer or Alarm Problem...FYI
I posted last week that after changing my battery my car would not start. The immobilizer light on the dash (clock) would not light up nor would the lights on the doors blink when I hit the remote. I tried different things…one was to disconnect the battery. Several times after I disconnected the battery the car would start. However, after driving for anywhere from 5 feet to half a block, the car would die.
I have it towed to my mechanic. He was able to find that the 993’s main fuses and the batteries ground cable were both corroded. After he cleaned them off the car has start and ran just find.
I was sure that I had an immobilizer or alarm control problem.

Poor grounds and centeral electric panel corrosion have been immobilizing Porsches for years before Porsche engineers formalized the ritual with the Immobilizer.
In certain climates, the 928 crowd perform an annual cleaning of such areas with products such as deoxit, etc.

Double check your battery's ventillation, there is a small clear tube you need to hook up on top the top fo the battery that goes into somewhere in the fender, if not the acid fumes from the battery will corrode the ground lead sitting right next to the battery.
