Our Boxster has heated seats, and yes, even in SoCal, we use the heaters all the time. I much prefer turning on the heaters vs. using the HVAC heat. They are really nice to have!!

A few websites for aftermarket products I have looked at, but never used:

http://aaaconvertible.com/seats.html
http://www.sportsimportsltd.com/seatheatac.html
http://cartekdist.com/

The heated seat has worked out very well. Jennifer always smiles when she turns the heat up. If the seat gets too warm, she switches to the low position.
I would recommend it as a low cost alternative to buying new seats.
