Default Best Way to Store Tires

I bought 6 of the Bridgestone S03's (4 rear, 2 front) on close out on Tirerack a few months back. Have them in contracter heavy duty bags and my question is does it hurt them just to sit on the cement in the garage or basement? Should I set them on something-read something about wood once.

Elevate them off of the concrete with wood so that they're not contacting the concrete. I have sixteen or so tires stacked up on two rolling carts so I can move them around very easily. It's a great system since I have no spare wall space to hang all of the donuts.

Keep them in a Tire Tote if you are going to store any length of time, also since they have handles it makes them easy to move them around.........I swop from Summer to winter wheels with tires mounted......when one set is off, each wheel tire is kept in a tire/wheel tote and the set are stored in a stack....as Mark suggested, off the floor in the garage using wood and inbetween each tire / wheel set I use a section of carpet or thick cardboard..........also I put an extra couple of pounds of air in each tire before storage......

When storing tires aren't you also supposed to keep them away from electrical sources (i.e. water heater) because of deterioration of the rubber from ozone? or is that just a myth?

Im just talking plain old tires-no rims-just extra tires. Still think the tire tote is the best way. Found them on Tirerack for about $20 a pair...

I think the 'keep them away from ozone' is because ozone (I suppose) deteriorates the rubber. Furnaces are a source.
What's the reason to store tires up off of the concrete (like Mark suggests)?

What's the difference if you have them stored vertically instead of horizontally. I have them on carpet but have them stored vertically upright.

Rick,

I think the storage issue has to do with the alkalinity of conrete. What specific consequences it has for our fancy tires, I do not know. I did a lame google search a few months ago but didn't have the time to find the necessary data.

Yes Mark, that is the reason I have always stored off concrete ..............and somebody above asked about vertical or horizonal....if stored vertical you can flat spot tire if not rotated often....also yes store away from heat as the volatiles will leach out and the tire compound will chnage

Hi Mark
Hmm, never thought about soring tires off of the floor, but heck, may as well.
Thanks for getting abck to me - hope you are enjoying the new car.
