Default A "getting used to an air cooled engine" moment

I am still truly a newbie in the world of air cooled engines.

Tonight I was topping off the oil in That Red Thing and when I removed the cap to the oil fill tube, I began studying the inside of the cap intently for signs of the dreaded "chocolate milk shake"-- the bane of the water cooled Porsche world, where water is being mixed with the oil due to a bad head gasket or heat exchanger. I was just smiling in a satisfied way over the fact all I was seeing was oil when I realized... ain't no coolant in this hoopty bro... never going to be a milkshake unless I first drive this thing into Lake Superior.

Hey, I'm learning.

Make sure to check the brake fluid reservoir cap for it though.

However - it is NOT uncommon to see some gook on the top inside of the cap, as if the car is run short distances, the condensation won't completely burn off/out of the oil...

However - nothing compares to checking the oil on my old 951 - and found out it was 2 quarts overfilled, as the headgasket blew and dumped it all into the pan... Who would have guessed??!!!
