I just took delivery of a 98 993 Targa. The car has just 20k miles and is essentially as new. It doesn't seem as though there are any issues at all with the car. It has had very little use in the last few years--according to the Carfax only 300 miles in 2005 for example.. The service book is the only record I have and the last time it went to a dealer according to that was in 2001 at 13k miles. Prior to that it had had "Low Mile" services annually.
Anyway, I leaning towards taking it to Beverly Hills Porsche for my "first service" and a general once over to check everything out and make sure its perfectly fettled. I know this is probably going to cost me a pretty penny more than likely.
But I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for an independent that may be a good alternative--someone trusted specifically for working on the 993s.
I'm in Hollywood so someone close by is what I am looking for. Suggestions appreciated. Also any thoughts on what I should have looked at/worked on too.
Cheers,
Steve

Steve,
BH Porsche
I would go to Foreign Sport Technicians and ask for Claudio or Paul. I have personal experience with these guys and they do a very good job.
BTW, no affiliation just a very, very happy customer. If you do go there please say hello for me.

First, welcome, congrats and we want pics ![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Second, if you can take the time to drive down there, you can't lose by going to see Tony at http://www.callasrennsport.com/. If we prefer to stay closer, you might check out http://www.ottosvenice.com/
Finally, use the search function. Click on advanced search, select the 993 forum and enjoy the archives. Odds are, your question has been asked and answered in great detail before.

Steve,
I'm the one with the Evo that bought the HRE wheels for my longhood. I too am now the proud owner of a 993 (traded the Evo - not the longhood!).
+1 for TRE. Those guys are REALLY great to work with and are only 12 miles from your office. I don't get up there much as I live in OC but they would be really good for you to get to know because they are one of the best when it comes to the early hot rods such as the ones you have.
Good luck and enjoy!
David
PS: Tell Jeremy (Svc Mgr) that VNTGSPD referred you.

+2 for TRE. They did a ppi for my previous 993 and didn't miss a thing as far as I could ever tell. Plus they built Jack Olsen's car - my all time favorite.

Hi David. Interesting that we both jumped out of "rice rockets"--me from my STI and you from your EVO--into 993s. I think that says something. Despite my STI being somewhat mental in the performance dept and on track (400whp!!!), I am much happier w/ the 993.
I know Dave at TRE very well--and Jeremy too--did a run up to Sonoma w/ him. I just did Dave's Baja Tour in my 72. I thought about him. He's done a lot of work on my best friend's hot rod 72. I actually use Tony at TLG for all my old car work. My thinking, probably mistaken, was that a dealer (stealer?) service dept might be good for the car, just from the point of view of the electrical systems etc.
Thanks for the advice.
Cheers,
Steve

Hi Steve,
Do yourself a favor and stay away from BH. I've never been there myself, but have heard bad things, consistently bad things, from more than one customer.
If you know Dave and Jeremy very well, then that is where you need to go. You certainly don't need me to add to the fact that these guys --and the whole crew at large-- are a superb bunch of guys that like what they do and do it very well. Besides, a dealer will charge you book rate, and still may not even get the job done right. Dave WILL treat you right, and you know that.![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
