LOL

Unfortunately these cars can sometimes attract unwanted attention both positive and negative. A clean one can easily be mistaken for a newer 997 by the uneducated (lots of those types out there).

I rarely ever park up front at the grocery store for fear of carts but I was running late and the rockstar parking spot beckoned to me so I went for it.

I think I'm going to park way out of sight from now on so I can stay longer at parties and not risk getting in trouble or worse, beat up in public. I'm 6'1 and seem to hold my own on the hockey rink but you never know who you are messing with, karate or no karate.

As for working out, it should help your heart handle all the extra adrenaline the 993 will cause to pump through your system. Enjoy!

Here's a new plate idea so nobody gets confused: "NOTA997"

Society in general is going to hell in a handbasket. People are so materialistic, in their minds it's almost an attack against them personally if someone has something nicer than them. Some guy is walking with his girlfriend, he sees a car he can probably never own, and he has to insult the owner to save face. It's a messed-up mentality (external locus of control mindset), but you see it everywhere. Those people are more than likely socialists too.

This is not a joke.....If you're ever interested in selling the Bronco, let me know....!

You can thank Porsche for keeping the 996 and 997 the same basic shape.

maybe i am missing something here. i have never[at least not yet] experienced this . is it a west coast thing? guys ragging on and pretending to kick your car ? offers of fisticuffs in return , wtf ? how about tire irons or switchblades ? hell , why not drag out your piece and just let them have one or two in the hat ?
let's all take a cleansing deep breath, hold it, ok, exhale deeply and slowly. don't you feel better now?
better yet, let's all go for a drive.

onlycafe,
I hope you never need to experience any of the bad stuff that 993's or any nice car causes sometimes due to jealousy. I'll probably be banned by the moderator for the backlash this will incite but oh well, what the heck: It almost makes owning the 993 not worth the hassle.
Note the word "almost".....

On the road and in parking lots, I try to be mega-courteous to avoid the "******* Porsche driver" epithet. So far, so good, but it's only a matter of time, I suppose, before I run into someone with an attitude.

Wow. I do the exact opposite. I recognize cars by exhaust notes that stick out from the everyday norm (I live in NYC) and I'll probably be the one to get smacked upside the head by his girlfriend because I keep stopping to admire various cars. I walk up to owners/drivers all the time in effort to socialize with one that might share the same passion for cars as I do. Some owners take differently to this kind of attention, no doubt due to the varying individuals they have to deal with. As such, I respect those who are able to maintain a welcoming demeanor, despite society's short comings, for us true enthusiasts.

As a compliement to you Porsche owners, one time I saw a nice light blue 993 Carrera in a Home Depot parking lot. Upon exiting, our cars drew close to the same intersection. I was poised to blurt out "Nice Car!", only the driver beat me to the punch and complimented my Corrado. I was so shocked, I think I barely stammered out "You too!"

That left a huge grin on my face for the rest of the day.

No plans on selling it for the time being but will keep you in mind. Its a rare vehicle and dont mind watching the prices continue to climb. Although not an investment by any means but rather a fun toy.

when the 997 first launched it seemed like I got that 'is it new thing' a lot more- especially living in santa monica, everyone was up in my business. but like kalumbian I always try and approach people if they're standing around their car or at a gas station- they're usually as enthusiastic about their cars as I am. I always have my ears turned towards the streets for the occasional ferrari, porsche, lambo or other exotic car, but when I see people driving old school MG 's and Aston Martins from the 50's and 60's I get just as excited.
at one point the 993 was my daily driver, so i was always nervous about parking. when i go to the grocery store these days, i take my old mercedes and park it wherever i want. People either figure it's too cheap to instigate anything or they think I'm some sort of 'connected' guy and run away.

Since buying the Carrara in July, it has had many admirers - almost all of whom refused to believe that it was a ten year old car. Younger women also appear to warm to the driver as much as to the car - a strange effect that warrants more study ....
The good side is that it has not attracted any negative assaults

Perhaps what is even more telling about the classic lines of Porsches, I still receive such comments about the '80 928. When I respond that it is a mere youngster at 26, they compliment the fantastic repaint - and reupholster in leather..... and their jaws drop further when they learn that it is all original!

The 993 will also age as well, I trust

You guys must live in some awful neighborhoods. You have grocery store parking lot gangs evaluating every car that comes and parks? Not sure when the last time someone got "up in my business" in a parking lot.

Unless you count that %^#$%$@ of a shopping cart boy. But he's dead now...
