OMG! That poor dog! I have also lost one in the past and i know how you probably still feel. The thing is he is a wuss, but in the middle of the night, with any of my family at home, who knows. I wouldn't like to be the first to try.
Why do so many Porsche owners have german Shephards?
I know, they are reliable, love going for a drive, never let you down and are always happy to see you, are very fast and intimidating and no matter how much of a ****ty day you have had, they are always there.
Sounds like my car

My German Shepherd Dog loves people, but she eats regular dog food, too.

I have a 125lb Yellow Lab (no, he's not fat-just big) and very protective but a heart of gold. People dont understand why he is so big but a simple explanation is go ask Shaq why hes so big. Just like people, some dogs are big.

I also live in one of the most safest neighborhoods in America (Sandy, UT) so that helps. A battery kill switch, immobilzer, locked garage, living in a culdesac, working out of the house, and about all my neighbors dont work or work out of the house equates to safety. Of course, **** happens.

People who leave their cars in the driveways with their garage door openers in them are also much more likely to have things stolen. Bust in the car and instant access to the garage.

I had a 1998 993 C2S stolen out of a parking garage in a condo (it was a shared garage) in a very upscale neighborhood. Neighbors reported seeing the car at 7:30AM and by the time I got downstairs at 8:30ish, it was gone. No tow truck, no fancy teams of people - just one guy walking up to the car and 2 minutes later, driving off - the security camera did not catch him going into the car, just walking towards it and disappearing behind a pylon where the car was parked....never recovered the car. So - yes, I would venture to say that the Porsche alarm system is fair at best...Get a tracking system. This particular car had 10,000 miles on it when it was stolen in 2003 and I had only owned it for 5 months.

Ok, While reading the above post about scissor lifts, the perfect solution came to me. Bolt a scissor lift to the floor and add a locking device so you can lift your car , and lock it in the up position. Not even a tow truck can take it! Note: This is also a Great selling point for the spouse! "Honey, I'm ordering a new security devise for the Porsche ." this would also be great at the office parking lot because it would make people dinging your door a thing of the past AND you'd be known as the guy that truely puts his car on a pedastal. By the way, I already know iI'm a bit mad.

Cool You could use....

Lojack Lojack in certain parts of the country using a beeper transmitter technology. The downside of the LoJack, you have to report the car stolen before the beeper is activated. Not so fast slick.... It seems that LoJack has some advanced features that I will be checking in to:

LoJack Products
LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery System
A small, silent transmitter hidden in your vehicle allows the police to track and recover it.

LoJack Early Warning Recovery System
For an added layer of protection to your LoJack System, LoJack Early Warning alerts you by phone, e-mail or alpha pager if your vehicle has been moved without authorization.

LoJack For Motorcycles
Introducing LoJack For Motorcycles. Now police can track and recover your stolen bike with LoJack

LoJack Upgrades
Add an extra layer of protection to your LoJack system and increase your level of security.

LoJack Licensed Products
Computrace® LoJack® For Laptops
Computrace LoJack for Laptops, by Absolute Software is a recovery service that enables law enforcement to recover stolen laptops. When your laptop is protected with this service, software installed on your laptop works behind the scenes to silently and securely contact our Monitoring Center, and if stolen, report its location using any Internet connection.

The folks that make On-Star for GM used to market an alarm system that incorporated GPS and a cellular system. They were in Dallas...can't seem to find them anymore. With their system, a stolen car could be reported to the police, the police would then know exactly where the car was located, with longitude and latitude...when they got to the car, if it were on the move, they could turn it off...sort of dangerous unless the car were at a stop for one reason or another. It was very expensive, about $1,500.

Here is another approach: http://www.gpstrackit.com/mlu.html

Then there is OnStar...http://www.onstar.com/us_english/jsp...s/services.jsp The downside, you need to buy a GM car to get it....

I keep mine in a garage, alarm on...hope for the best.

Default Two kinds of protection

I am pretty clear on this...if a "bad guy" is in the house (garage is in the house) then I will dump about a half of a clip into him. I am also real clear that if someone is coming in the house they are ready to do us harm. Don't be rattling the door ***** at night around here. It would be a race between my wife and I as to who gets the gun first. Shopping for a short (18") barrel 12 GA currently. That should be fun.

The other protection is the always alert GSD. How she knew the exact property line is a mystery. I always would know when someone was close. Nobody ever bothered to ring the doorbell as we all heard her bark.

I don't know if she would go 'nuts" on somebody about the car but several guys were more than a little nervous about delivering stuff to the house. She would protect my wife to the death. Only 75 lbs but full of attitude.

May she RIP...I would like to replace her but how could I?

Not only do I worry about theft of the car - Im worried about my garage in general. I got the place immaculate, painted floors, nice big tool chests - pc with big *** monitor for internet music, online workshop manuals and OBD reading. My neighbors by comparison have a bunch of crap piled high - mine doesnt look like something out of Griots - but compared to my neighbors, it might as well be.

Of course, Im in it all the time with the door open, porsche back end to the street, Im sure anyone casing the joint could ID at least 5 things from the sidewalk (30 feet away) without detection.
i used to have special forces and military themed bumper stickers on my truck outside, I would like to believe that this might be cause the thefts to think a little bit before breaking in.....

Since we've turned this into a dog thread here's my current 2. I had to put down my best dog ever 9 years ago on Father's Day, still not a pleasant memory. Tasha was a wonderful GSD and a great ski boat spotter (we lived on a lake in FL at the time). I hope I go wherever she went when I die.

A friend who visited Sweden for work used to park his 993 RS in a public guarded parking garage. One day, an estimated 3 minutes after he parked for the evening and activated TWO car alarms, the guard saw the car drive off. 3 years later my friend got a phone call from the Swedish police saying they had rounded up a car-theft gang and found his RS pretty much in boxes. The front hood had a huge drill hole in it just where the emblem is and it turned out you can disconnect any alarm that way (I presume by reaching in and cutting wires??). Not quite sure as they did not give all details. But they must have cornered out his car and it did not take them long to drive it away.

Does anyone know if the thieves have ways around the Boomerang or AirIQ systems?
