I got a hardwire kit for my Escort, which will be clipped to my sunvisor. The wiring "harness" has a mute button assembly. I'm mulling over options as to where to mount it. I'm trying to find a place that will be hidden (glove box or ashtray?), or inconspicuous, and not involve a lot of cutting and rooting around for + and - wires. Anybody else put one of these in? How do you like the location you chose?

I have the Escort with Shifter ZR3 system and the mute n indicator is velcro right underneath ashtray .

I have the same set-up. I hardwired it to the sunroof switch and put mute button just above those switches and below the astray - velcroed to the top of the switch housing.

If I can remember, I will take photos this evening.

I'm still thinking about hiding the mute button in the ashtray... I'll be scoping it out some more later tonight...

The ashtray is the one factory-installed feature that's never going to be used in my car anyway. Might as well use it for something...
