Question Height at fender: Where do YOU measure?

There is about a 1/2" difference between them. From reading old threads with pics and measurements, it seems like some people use one point, and some use another.

Ride height is often measured from the bottom of the fender lip ("B" in your drawing). However, the true method for this measurement is from the subframe components. Here are the measurement points from the workshop manual. Even when these are set correctly, you may find a slight difference in the fender-to-ground measurement. It's just the semi-hand built nature of these cars and how the car is corner balanced.

So true .... I'm a fan of point 'B': use a yardstick as the vertical measure, and a shorter ruler as a cursor/slider at right angles to the vertical.
When fender contact is made above the hub centerline, the reading is reasonably precise.

Note that true measures are taken from the chassis reference points to a level floor.

The key is to establish the relationship between the chassis measurement point and the fender lip for YOUR car.

I understand about the chassis measurement points, but there are dozens of posts with a side-on picture and listed fender heights.

Besides using 'B' I pick the highest point on the fender arc, vs. through the center of the wheel, if that makes sense.

epj993 - thanks for posting that. i was trying to figure mine out using the subframe measurements against my fenders and realized i was definitely in the wrong spot!

I know where I should measure, but I take my measurements at point B since it's the easiest to access and seems to be the point most use for comparison purposes. Point B also has less room for subjeciveness than does A.

Also, since I'm typically interested in the change from installing suspension components, point B gives me the data I would need for any comparison purposes.

I use the factory method, it's easy if you make a tool, 2 bolts and a threaded barrel, or 2 pieces of rod w/ a pinch bolt in the middle.

It would be nice if everyone posted chassis measurements, but somehow I don't think that the hundreds of threads comparing perfect fender gaps in photos would translate to, "dude, I love how your subframe bolt sits--you've just the right ground clearance!"

In any case, the results of the poll are pretty conclusive. Glad to see everyone's on the same page.

this is the car

these are the fender heights
24.25"
24.625"

these are the chassis heights as measured using the factory method
96mm
110mm

As near as I can tell RS fender heights were
~25 1/4"
~25"

Factory RS spec is
124±10
107±10

Mine:

To ensure consistency and to try to minimize optical effects, all of the pictures were taken from the same location, the car was parked in the same location (note the blue tape on the floor), and the camera was mounted on a tripod with the center of the lens about 25" off the floor.

Here are my pre-corner-balancing/pre-alignment fender heights:

LF = 25 3/8"
RF = 25 3/8"
LR = 25 1/8"
RR = 25 1/8"

and my reference heights:

LF = 129mm
RF = 129mm
LR = 112mm
RR = 112mm

This is essentially RS height plus 5mm.

THE FIRST TWO ARE ANIMATIONS, SO GIVE THEM A SECOND TO LOAD. They will flip every 2 seconds.

I run 24.75 front and 25 in rear measured at "B". Don't know the reference but will now check. I REALLY like the increased rake with the "lower than RS". No bump steer and FANTASTIC on the track. Will post a picture later this week.
