Need help desperately!
The other night I slipped and fell on my wet lawn and landed on my keys leaving a nice bruze on my hip and ego but nothing else. The next day I go to get in my 993 and my car wont unlock
So I undoubtedly damaged someting in my ONLY remote. The red LED still lights up, but no response from the car. In an attempt to save myself $5000 on a new central locking computer and DME install I need a little help.
it appears I dented the silver dome on the circuit board, I am guessing it is the transmitter as it is the only thing on the circuit board I dont remember ever learining about. Can someone please confirm this for me or provide a schematic of the remote so I can solder in a new transmitter to the board and save myself some unnecessary $$

my 0.02cts, last week I couldn't unlock my car neither, and the small red light lighted up.
I just changed the battery and the car opened flawlessly.
I mean even if the red light lights-up, it could be the battery,
but I am sure you went that way,

buy a new remote (or two)... fwiw: you can get your codes from the dealer if you provide the vin # & sweet talk them... sometimes they charge! wth!
since your code is set on the remote... you should also be able to program another... not sure if they come as (original switchblades) key-blanks though.
i'd just buy a new remote, do the 'diy' upgrade to the lite-key too. hell... i'd get a couple remotes & lite-key blanks.
ps: i have 4 remotes & two had to be reset (to correct code) as they were older ones from the 'po' that for some reason did not work.

another reason to have several keys for your car

Yes indeed, take you registration to your dealer and tell him you need a new key FOB, get two (2). I did...if you ever completely loose your keys, with the 96 and later cars....they'll have to flat bed your car to the dealer...or so they told me when I left both sets of keys at the other crib.
Replace the key FOB batteries 1X per year, why not, it can't hurt!

well it is my only key fob, leaving me with one way to move the car... flatbed,
I changed the battery 4 months ago, but all this battery talk will have me trying it again. I have a friend who is a porsche tech and he is telling me the only way is a new alarm control unit, and since it is a 96' that also means new dme because it is coded to the alarm control

I dropped my keys and my alarm went dead. Changed the battery and the issue was resolved. Battery wasnt that old when it happened. Not saying thats your issue but its worth $3 to give a shot with a new battery first, imho.

I keep a spare battery in the car as well as a small Phillips screwdriver. If the remote starts acting goosey, I change the battery straightaway.
If you have Premier Automobile Club of SoCal membership, the flatbed cost to Circle Porsche will be free. I would recommend that you flatbed it down to Newport Auto and give world class tech, Kevin Kelly, a shot at checking out your car, giving it a physical so to speak...he is the best factory tech I have ever met, and lots agree with me. He has a number of years at ANDIAL working for the Germans and rose to Lead Tech.

yep... all you need is a remote (& the old key for the ignition). maybe hit radio shack if you want to try & fix the old one (but i'd hate to further complicate things). again, yer best bet is to ring a rep. dealer (parts counter)...
btw: re: the battery thing... i had probs w/ one of mine & the light still lit up, yep it was the battery. scarry though when your miles from home & your doors won't open.

ok as long as the alarm isnt activated .......going off you can program a new key no problem......if the alarm is activated, you do not need a new alarm control unit, yours can be "unlocked" its a pita but it is possible , even if you have to replace the alarm ecu there is no reason to buy a dme
unless you have a bad door latch acuator (which is very commong on the pass side of 993s becasue honestly whens the last time you stuck a key in it)
then progarming is a hughe pita and may be expensive
