Does anyone know where I can find an OEM aluminum insert for a 993 rootwood shift ****? Either Porsche crest or 6-speed pattern ok. Looking to have it in my hands by Friday afternoon.
Thanks,

I believe that rotwood **** came with a leather inlay (actually, it's cardboard inside, leather on top). I have teh ****, but the leather is worn out to nothing.

I wanted an aluminum inlay when my leather one was looking to crappy to continue. I could not find one and settled for one of the black blastic ones. It looks pretty good (much better than the old leather) but I'd prefer Al. I remember seeing the Al ones a couple years ago, but could not find any when I looked.

I couldn't find one either. I painted the stock black insert with Eastwood "TiCoat", which is a titanium silver color. Then I lightly clearcoated it with Eastwood clear. It looks as good as a metal insert, and was a lot less costly.
Here's a couple of pics...sorry about the glare:

Here's the link to Eastwood TiCoat: http://www.eastwoodco.com/jump.jsp?i...emType=PRODUCT
Prime the insert lightly with some sandable light gray primer, let dry overnight. Spray with TiCoat, let dry overnight, then clearcoat with Eastwood aerosol clear "for painted surfaces" on top. Let this dry for a day or two.

Sorry to hijack. I have the same shifter and have been looking for a replacement inlay as well. I think there is also a company in the UK that sells them. Brushed aluminium but rather expensive. I will search and if I find it again I will post. please let me know when/if you order one as I am desparate for one too.

Mike: I have a rootwood shifter **** and you can replace the leather insert with the standard insert. You simply pry the leather insert out and insert the new one. It sits up a little higher than the leather did, but my leather looked like ****, so it's much better.

Tom, that's good to hear. Maybe I'll fix my rotwood **** after all.
In the meantime I have a Momo Phantom, an aftermarket ball shifter and the just picked up RS ball shifter. Still can't find what I like. What I really like is the simple ball that I have on my Miata: http://www.thompson-automotive.com/voodoo.html I'm thinking of having them made for Porsche shifters by the same guys who make them for Miatas, but have not had enough time to investigate the costs.
