That's great, I can relate to you on that.

I do get a lot of "ricers" and am always nice to with a smile or a thumbs up. Not that I am impressed, but it is someone that likes cars, speed and they just could end up being Porsche owners due to "man, I pulled up on a Porsh today and the guy thought my car was cool, I'd love to own one of those cars"

I wave to all but response is as follows:
356, 944, 968, 914, 911, 964, 993, 996, 997 - 50% reply
Boxsters - 30% reply
Cayman - 10% or less reply (guess they're new to the whole Porsche thing; keep training them)
Cayenne - 0% reply (usually a stunned look from the soccer mom behind the wheel "... is something wrong with my SUV? or is he just a perv?" look. - I'm giving up on that group!

After almost 9 years of waving, I have given up on anything but air cooled. Stopped at a light today I gave a thumb up to a yellow F430 Spyder behind me. Both occupants returned the thumb up. Even the occasional 993 driver is new to Porsche ownership and does not return the wave. Once I did the to another Arena Red 993 and he looked at me like I was nuts.

i will (and have), but it seems they never will back...so i have sorta stopped waving. i've even gotten the no-wave-back from 993 owners; clearly they were not RLers.

that's funny b/c i waved & waved & waved @ ol' fartus & got no wave back (@ octoberfest)... when i was in the pepper. that explains it! i won't take it personal.

i wave pretty much always unless it's an obvious blingbling mobile w/ 4' subs in da back. now i've been just flashin'...

also the ol' vette thumbs up seems to work on all the nicely maintained 911's.

A guy pulled up to me in a beautiful 87 Carrera today. The car was mint and as an admirer (I've owned an 85 Carrera and an 85 930) I made sure I gave him the due admiration. We chatted at two stop lights and admired each other's cars.

Sadly, this is a rarity. Vancouver is LA-esque and there are many 996 and 997s being driven around by people who care more about the status than the heritage. I actually had a run-in with an a-hole driving a Cayman this past Sunday who was tailgating me and driving aggressively around me as if to infer that my "old" Porsche had nothing on his new one.

So no, I don't wave to all p-car drivers...just those that I identify as enthusiasts. On that note...

I wave at all of them, even Cayennes. Never had a wave back from a Cayenne. I'd hate it if I stopped waving and they waved at me and labelled me as one of the miserable gits who don't acknowledge other Porsche drivers!

The best experience with this was a few months ago with a guy in a white 944. I flashed my headlights and waved as he approached and he seemed so surprised he missed his headlight stalk and hit the windscreen washers, got the right stalk and flashed his headlights (well headlight actually - only one popped up!) and was swerving all over the place with his other hand waving frantically out of his window!

I try and wave to all P cars, regardless of whether I am driving my air or water cooled cars. I did get a funny wave the other day. I had passed a big F250 diesel truck and after a while he caught back up to me . As he passed me back in the fast lane, the female in the passengers seat hung her naked white butt out the window and waved it at me!! I could not figure out whether this was an aggressive gesture or not, but it was funny at the time.

I pretty much wave at all Porsches, except Cayennes due to zero percent response...

I would say the "wave back rate" from other P-owners here in stockholm is about:
Air cooled = 90%
996/997 = 30%
Cayenne = 0,0 % (Seriously doubt they know about this "tradition")
Boxsters = 50%
928/944/924= 75%

If I'm in the middle of a "quick run"...like going through a curve...or if I'm in heavy traffic, I don't wave to anybody. However, if I'm just easily crusing along, I'll way to anybody who waves to me. And if I see ANY Porsche or ANY other enthusiest type car...vette, nice mustang, whatever, I'll wave to to them...I really don't do the flashing light thing...as I interpret that as "a cop is up ahead". As far as I'm concerned...I'm just another car guy out there who happens to be lucky enough to won a Porsche!

i only wave at 993 or older cars , unless its a 996turbo or gt2,gt3.
Im not snubbing the water cooled cars, but in the ny/ct area, these owner rarely wave back, so its a waste. In general aircooled cars always wave back as well as gt2/gt3 cars.
But, ill wave at any sporty car if it seems the driver is staring at my turbo.

Common name for a Cayenne. Since a Cayenne is a type of hot pepper you eat.

I wave at all P-cars some get it some don't the air cool guys seem to get it in my part of the country.
