Which suspension set-up is the best bang for the buck?

The choice really depends on what you see yourself doing with the car and how long you intend to keep it. My advice (since you live in CA) is get some of the guys together and compare for yourself as to what the rides feel like. From previous posts it would seem that you could see and try almost everything from the p-car owners in your neck of the woods. From my very biased opinion PSS9s.....easy to fit, easy to cahnge setting.....vast improvement over stock (esp worn stock) juat my2cents

Take a test ride...that is
a great plan. My car is now in San Diego, but will be moving it up to San Miguel (Paso Robles) fairly soon. I am 2 hours north of Santa Barbara.
Fill (Phil McGrath) lives in Santa Ynez...although hsi car is on the block, he may be able to give you a ride. It is well set up, with gears and suspension...don't know what.

Congrats to Fill...
His 993 cars was very well sorted out, the close ratio gears, etc. Nice ride for a fellow Rennlister.
Fill, you need to bring that GT3 out to the track. The POC TT events are seeing more and more GT3 cars. You would have somebody to dice with.

Another point to consider ... two drilled holes through the top plastic spacer allowed a couple of zip ties to secure the spring into its top groove .... and keep it from falling out every time the car is lifted.

All good points gentlemen. I think I may have to take a few for a spin for sure. Is there a significant difference in how an S would handle relative to my NB C2? I really don't think I'm going to have alot of opportunity to track this car so I wonder if the PSS9 set up is money wasted when some other setups will give me solid handling improvements. I think that I'm sold on bilstein dampers from the feedback of many here and some mechanics I've spoken with. I have no idea what springs are on my car and may have to check p-car.com to see if I can determine this from any color dots on my springs. The car sits lower than stock but the front is not "slammed" to the ground (which saves my splitters from an early demise).

I use my car mainly as a daily driver but I'm looking for better handling. The car hasn't made it to the track yet but I'd like to take it out some place a few times a year for a little weekend fun.
I'd like avoid anything too harsh for daily driving or a set-up that is way overkill since its not really a track car. Some friends I know have said they felt "coil over" type set-ups tend to be more "bouncy"....truth or myth?

I spent a great deal of time on this board doing exactly what you are attempting, 2ndof2. Looking for the suspension set up that would suit me best.
Here were my concerns: I was concerned that the car would not "sit" the way I envisioned it should. I have a C4S that was at SUV height when I purchased it. I wanted it much lower, but without any clearance problems.
I also was concerned with the ride. I didn't care for the stock ride (shocks were prolly shot at 28K miles), but didn't want the car to ride like a milk wagon on Wyoming back roads. I did not want the suspension to be 'harsh'.
After much reading and questions, I went with Gert's M030s, the HD Bilsteins and the TT sways along with the front bumper bar (FTB?).
The shop I used ... a racing Porsche shop here in CT was not happy with my decision. They wanted the PSS9s as they were "adjustable". Whatever ....
The result of my installation was amazing. No ... the car was not "transformed" as some have stated, but it was much better than before installation. The car sits very low and straight. I can get just a finger under the tire/fender well. I have not scraped the FTB either and I have a steep driveway.
The ride is much better than stock. It is not harsh at all. Firm ...? Yes. But, not harsh. I recently drove a new 997 and altho the 997 is more compliant, the set up I have on my 993 C4S is very nice.
Is this a pricey deal? Depends on what you think is pricey. You can search Gert's site at Carnewal and others. Then, there is installation as well. Figure at least $1500 for the install. Maybe more .... or less. Then 4 corner balancing may be more. It was for me. Since I had several other things done at the same/same time, it's difficult to 'factor out' what the install cost. But, the shop was 'unfamiliar' with Gert's deal. Took them much more time to do than with the PSS9s. Still .... I'm very happy with what I got.
The result is great. I love the way my car sits. If you do a search you will see it. I like the 'flat' feeling I have on cornering and the compliant ride it gives as well. It was worth the cost in my opinion.
Others may not agree. All things are relative.

I followed essentially an identical path as Bagger above: finalized on HD's, euro turbo springs, and M030 bars - set at ROW M030 (sport) height. I did have H&R springs initially, but found them too low for the C4S. Installation ( twice ) is a fairly easy DIY.
The ride is taut and compliant on rough pavement - the car remains flat and controlled at all times: great bang for the buck!
