Thinking of adding a '89 Speedster. Looking for input.
Are any of you 993 owners experienced with the '89 Speedsters? I've been smitten by this model for quite sometime. There's one available locally that has my interest.
It's not stock, but the work done on it was by Andial-Deiter.
It has a hand built and balanced twin plug 3.7 litter polished crankshaft, 964 cams, C-4 12 plug distributor, duel computers with sport processor chips, Carrillo rods. The car has 39,500 miles with the engine work done at 11,000 miles.
Also....polished and ported intake, Adnial custom sport exhaust system, custom modified twin turbo cat. European (8:32) ring and pinion gears installed. Larger diameter 930 rear shocks, 30mm rear torsion bar and corner balance.
Custom built Kinesis 3 piece modular Super Cup polished wheels 8 x 17 front, 10 x17 rear 225/45 front rubber, 275/40 rear.
I plan a test drive this week. It appears to be in perfect shape. I still need to see a carfax on it as well as get it to my mechanic.
What's your impressions of the '89 Speedesters in general?
Am I better off getting a stock one with less miles?
Thanks...Barry

I am not a cab guy but the speedster could change my mind. The mods make this car quite interesting to me. If Andial did the work, it should be rock solid. This could turn out to be a really special car, if that is what you are looking for? What color? Sorry if I missed that in your post.
Best of luck,

To answer ceboyd's response.....at a cost of $23.126, a 3.7 was put in the car. Further more, the intake/ exhaust work is listed at $4,337, transmission cost of $4821, suspension at $708 along with wheels/tires at $4,547.

These cars bring a premium stock so not sure how the mods will effect value. They are definitely cool cars as the bodies used were intended for the Turbo models.

WOW! That's a heck of a lot of work to get a 3.7!!!
I'm guessing the resale price is going to be at a huge loss given those mods...
...sounds like a nice car if it was all done right...

Just my opinion, but it seems that a non-modded car like a rare 89 Speedster is probably going to hold value better than a highly modified one. Like I said just my opinion.

I had one, they are really look neat except.... They leak in the rain, they have the old torsion bar suspension, and the car is just plain old compared to 993 or 964 standards.

They are definitely not meant to driven in the Rain......My buddy has a BLK on BLK 89 Speedster. The do look awesome I just wish the top were electric instead of manual. The 94' had electric top but they weren't widebodied.

You do what ya gotta go to keep the rain out:
We love the '89 Speedsters. We have several Friends that bought them new and still own them. Only problems we've heard of are 1) the water issue 2) the top being a pain in the butt and 3) It has a lot of flex and wind noise. Maybe one day we'll get one ,but only AFTER I get another 993!!!

I have one and it's been my favorite porsche that I have owned. It does feel old compared to the 993 but it is a beautiful car to look at. I get alot more attention driving the 89 speedster then driving the 993. It's a wonderful car for the weekend drives with the top down. It was made for top down driving on nice sunny days. I myself perfer it stock then with all the mods. I'm not sure how that would affect value. If you like it then go for it. You will not be disappointed.
