Default The need for 300bhp...

Anyone else joins me in thinking that we're missing something in life by being less than 300 bhp for a standard factory spec '95 C4?

Are there any simple mods that do not involve engine modification, perhaps only ECU re-mapping that can acheive this magical figure?

I have a K&N filter and a meaty sounding fabspeed exhaust so I guess another 10 bhp is already added?

DMS automotive, UK do re-mapping but only 13 bhp more for about £300!

More peak power is not what's needed IMO. I'd rather have 50-80 more lb-ft of torque between 2500 and 5000 rpm. I'm afraid there's nothing short of displacement or boost that can achieve that...

There are chips available that supposedly can give another 50 bhp. I have one in my car but have not dynoed the engine to see if it really givs it 50 more hp. Not real sure if the K&N filter dos much. Check out the 964 forum, good thread recently on first page about K&N filters. I understand conversion to dual exhaust might add another 10 bhp.

Thanks.
Who provided your new chip? How much did it cost?

K&N filters do not add any HP and ny type/brand/model of muffler does nothing as flow is more limited elsewhere, heads and cats in particular. Might be able to squeeze out 5 to 10 HP with a chip, though. Anything more than 10 HP out of a chip without any other very expensive mods is a marketer's imagination working overtime.

I thought our cars already had dual exhaust? Maybe you're thinking of a cat bypass.

Shorter gears give you much more punch at lower revs...

No way, no how any chip will make 50 hp on a n/a 993. 10-15 ok but that's about it.

Thats because your car is red. Red only gains probably no more than 15hp.

Never heard of a chip that would get me 50hp.

+1.

50 hp is pie-in-the-sky optimistic.

Paint the car arena red. It's known to have the most hp of any color.

Most cost effective way to get more "power" is probably a chip and trimming off excess weight (i.e. seats, interior, wheels/tires, exhaust) including any excess you are personally carrying

After that, RS LWF and regeared tranny would be next.

Shaving about 150 lbs would net to about 15 more hp, but saving weight also results in better stopping and turning, too. A pound that doesn't have to be accelerated is a pound that doesn't have to be decelerated, either.
