300 is just a number. My old '89 carrera had "only" 216 hp and it was a blast to drive. When I got my 993 I was in hog heaven with 282hp.

Chances are very high that most 993 owners won't come close to tapping even a fraction of their car's capabilities.

As I said, it supposedly increases by 50 bhp which is not confirmed, can't know without a dyno test. As for the dual exhaust, sorry, I was thinking about my 964. My 964 came with a Welmeister computer chip installed at 50k miles. It could be my imagination but my 964 seems more gutsy than my 993 but the 964 has a louder sports muffler and stiffer suspension so it may just feel that way. I agree that an additional 10bhp is probably the top end with a chip.

300bhp, not exactly setting the world on fire. Especially when it has to push 3000lbs around. The only way to go for serious power is Turbo (400-plus ), or possibly 9Meister NA package for 350bhp.

Cheap power, a fried of mine recently got one and can't stop grinning

Sport Miata will be around $26 MSRP plus $3600 for the MazdaSpeed body kit plus another $5k for the supercharger. The HP will be around 265 to 280 HP depending on the boost. That is a lot for a 2500lb car.

I put on an open airbox and Fabspeed Cup exhaust and immediately felt the car go from 282hp to 283hp. I'm waiting until I adjust to that increase before any chip goes in!

Don,

With all due respect, by changing only the chip, you don't need to dyno it to confirm 50 hp increase, it simply is impossible.

That is why I need to wait...doesn't your car feel faster to you after it is washed and waxed? See, it is the lowered friction as it passes through the air, also scientifically proven to equal one hp....you are equally sensitive!

slap on a "V-TEC" sticker and you should be able to add an instant 10-15hp at the wheels

Finn, I agree, but I can get a dyno run on my engne for about $80 thru a local club. I'm more interested to know what the bhp output is for my engine with 60 k miles. I'd be happy to know it is still at spec. Before I spend lots of money to get more significant power on my NA 964, I would opt for a 964 turbo.

That's sensitive! How often do you calibrate it and, more importantly, who does it? Wouldn't think it work to be entrusted to just anyone. Maybe a DIY? I'll search the archives.

If anyone is going to be at NNJR PCA Porscherama at Pocono this weekend, PowerTech will have their dyno set-up in the garages, as they did last year. I think the price is still $100.
