Default Another Trailer Hitch Question...

Hi-

I know some folks on the board use the Daalen/Curt style of htich for their 993s. I'm hoping you'll be able to help me and -

-Tell me if the bumperettes go back on after installation

-Post a pic of what it looks like when it's finished.

I'm trying to figure out if there's room for the license plate if I cut off the tongue and replace it with a 1.25 inch reciever. Also curious to see if it detracts much from the appearance of the car.

Thanks a lot for any help you can offer.

-Brian

Hmmm...looks like I delete my pics of my first 993 with a Daalan hitch on it. As I recall, the bumperetts do not go back on and the license plate mounts to the flat plate of the hitch itself above the ball mount.

I'm selling my Daalan hitch (mounted once never used...but a real trailer instead and towed the car). email or PM me if anyone is interested.

Kim's right. No bumperettes and the plate mounts flat against the back so there probably would be room for a receiver.

Next question is what is the best place to put the wiring for the trailer lights? I've tapped into the car's wiring behind the left tailight; when it's not in use I fold the trailer wiring harnesses and secure it around the little support rod by the distributors with some velcro tape, but when it is hooked into the trailer it goes out from under the hood and the harness is being cut from being pinched by the hood.

Sorry...I couldn't find a picture.

Mark - It may take a little effort, but how about removing the tail light and running the wires through the hole there when you want to connect to the trailer, otherwise keep it tucked away in the engine bay. You might have to make the converter removable to do this.

We had little trouble replacing the bumperettes to clean up the look....just trimmed them a small bit and there you go, they fit tine . Don't think I have any photos, and that car is gone, but it can be done easily!

Default Thank You!

Thanks a lot for the help on this everyone - and especially to 993994S2 for the pics. I've been futzing around with this project on and off for a year now. With this last round of posts I feel like I'm closing in on a decent solution. Looking forward to getting my bicycle out of the backseat...
