Question Best 12v air compressor for 993 spare?

I don't have the factory one, so I'm looking for a suitable substitute. Small is good. As is the ability to fill a tire in a reasonable amount of time.

Just Googling around, it seems like most small aftermarket pumps have very high PSI, but never any mention of CFM.

OTOH, I guess small size is probably most important. This looks promising at 6"x6"x3":

Have been through several (supposedly made for Porsche etc) some from ebay, others from tire specialists. Observations:
a) The Porsche OEM is the most powerful (time to fully inflate from flat, just a few minutes). However, it attaches to the valve by a screw-in fitment which is a pain.
b) After market pumps have better attachments (lever) but are generally unreliable (had two burn out), take a very long time (some as long as 20 minutes per tire) and have 100 + psi limits. You then worry about over-inflating and causing structural damage.
c) After market pumps don't stow away well and tend to "wander" all over the garage floor. They can get very hot, which is not surprising bearing in mind how long they need to inflate.
d) The large units can be pre-set to the desired psi and left alone to get on with the job.
Conclusion: Kept the OEM and threw away the rest. Ideally, i'd like to find a small, lightweight pump with lever attachment that can be pre-set with the desired PSI and will do it quickly. No luck so far.

Do you use this often? Fortunately I have never had to use mine.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking--if I use it once, ever, that'll be more often than I've ever had a flat in a street car. Even if it's essentially destroyed from one use, if it gets the tire up that once it's done its duty.

It's just a flaw in my personality that won't allow me to drive around with a collapsable spare and no way to inflate it.

Rally Jon....That's the compressor I have sitting inside the spare in my trunk!
Of course, If all goes as planned, I will never get the chance to tell you if it's any good, though.

I would think this would be a good thing, especially considering how often it will be used.

Go to autozone. They have a number of compact compressors. i got one made by Slime for $20. never used it on my Porsche but did use it on another car with a dead flat tire on the floor, did not jack it up. pumped up to 35# in less than 10 mintues maybe 5. Fits in the spare wheel.

"Do you use this often?" Yup, way too often for my taste... Have had at least a dozen flats so far, all with the same car. Most, whilst parked. There is a strange "attractor" to the local hooligan element here in London, when it comes to Porsches.

Interesting...in 29 years of driving, and I've done a LOT of driving...I've had exactly (1) flat tire. Now watch...I bet I get a flat on the way home today...

I use mine all the time, to adjust my pressure when the weather changes and at the track. Mine is very similar to the one pictured above. I used it yesterday, when I got my first flat on my car. Darnit!!

Sorry to hear about the flat. Wouldn't an air tank work better (faster) at the track?

I suppose it would, but I'm not in a hurry at the track I only use it at the end of the day when I have to re-fill for street driving.
