IRL at Infineon - Some Pics
Hi Folks,
Went to the IRL race at Infineon with my in-laws. Man! those cars are loud. Marco Andretti came in first, and Kannen went from second to 16th as he had to pit on the last lap.
Danika (car #16) had the most support but came in 8th. For a stretch, she and Kannen had a great battle for second place.
After the race, I walkd past the Porsche corral (many Porsches on the same green), and snapped a peculiar picture. Let's see if anyone notices what's up with this one.
I took some pics of the IRL cars. Enjoy.

I went yesterday to see the Grand Am race. Stopped by to see Hayden in the Brumos pits and shot a couple of pics of the new Porsche/Riley cars:
Here's the office of Red Bull/Brumos 58:
The silver thing in the cockpit is a small AC system for the driver.
Here's a picture of the front of Brumos 59:
And here are the DP's heading through T1 after a yellow flag restart:
And a couple GT class cars in the Carousel:
The prototypes blow by the GT cars like they are standing still. I also really enjoyed seeing the historic Grand Prix cars. Nice day at Sears Point.

For those of us who have driven the track in our lowly street-legal sportscars, seeing the data from the IRL cars was an eye-opener: Turn 1 apex 150 mph (even with a shorter run due to reconfiguring turn 11), turn 8 in the esses 160 mph. Mind-boggling. Imagine what an F1 car would be doing!

couldn't help but notice the lack of butts in seats in the esses grand stand. by way of comparison, at the Nascar race, those same stands are all but full. Open wheel used to be the premier series in the US, then tony george got upitty....
