Congrats, Danny!! Uh, er, I mean, what the heck do you think you're doing, man??!!!

...If I may ride on your coat tails for a moment, may I add that I got my very first trophy last event ...2nd Place in Class in Time Trial! I was beyond thrilled!!! Uhhh, that is, I mean ...my apologies to the Big Turtle and all here. I'm so ashamed...

Don, my car is expertly setup by Mike Callas in Sealy, corner balanced etc. I have the H&R coilovers with the M030 Euro sways. The setup is a good compromise for track and street with -1.7 front camber and -1.9 rear. I use Dunlop SSR's 225 front, 265 rear on 18" RS Speedlines. I too have understeer, but I use left foot braking to rotate it and load the front which works great. I dont really lift off the gas completely anywhere, I use the brakes sometimes in combination with the throttle. I also try to be very smooth, not to jerk the car around. One common mistake that I see especially in the slalom portion is people throttling and backing off at every turn which upsets the car very much. I use a steady throttle and if I feel the car starting to drift too much then either I back off or use a touch of left brake while maintaining throttle. Finally you should look at all the corners and decide which ones need to be sacrificed in order to be able to stay as much as possible on full throttle. On this event, on the far end of the track there was this right hand sweeper on very slipery surface. Everyone was trailbraking in there and trying to hug the corner which resulted most of the cars really getting out of shape and loosing too much time. I broke that corner in to 2 sections as it was right after a short of a straight and then a straight followed it. So I braked deep and straight, then late apexed the 2nd part of the corner so I was on full boil at the straight with the car in control ( well a tiny bit of throttle oversteer )

Bob, I admit it was a mistake... I had no intentions on braking into the 45 second range, that is why I had a passenger for instruction almost on all my laps and on my fastest lap.

Mike S, I knew I would get into hot water with the AutoX junkies!LOL... I too have too much fun on these events that I find that I'm rapidly becoming a fan of them. Its cheap, relatively safe and you do things with the car that will make you a better driver for sure, enjoying the car and the people at the events.

Rick et all, when I see you guys again I will for sure buy you some beer, I'm having some heavy racing withdrawls but my financial/work situation does not allow me to indulge this year...I remain hopefull for next year though

Danny, the reason I got into autocross is because I got scared on the street, spinning my mid-engined car by having no clue. I think it's the only time where you can find true limits and step over them safely. I wouldn't dare to do it on the track.

The fact that it's fun and addictive is another thing, but we don;t tell newbies that

PS. Still, it's fun to get an FTD at a Porsche event in a Miata. Just for social value alone

PPS. I'm amazed that you did it on Dunlops. I'm sure there were plenty of Hoosier-shed cars there.

Way to go Danny!!!

Very impressive. Any pics?

There is nothing wrong with achievement... as long as you achieve in a very HWFM way.
Though FTD must mean you didn't even kill any cones...

The Turles have been sneaking up on a lot of hares lately.

Eric Cyranski is int the points battle for a NASA championship... Sunday Driver is off to the SCCA Runoffs again... Jeff Phillips has had a couple of podii.

Who else has had good results this summer?
