Just wondering how often do I need to change Mobil 1 synthetic oil if the car is driven less then 500mi a year?

I would say minimum, at least once a year. If it is a daily driver, every 5 - 6k. I am sure there are others that do it more frequently depending on there driving habits.

I'd change it at six month intervals.

Sounds like a waste of a good car driving it for only 500 miles per year. . Are you planning to save it for a collector sale or a grandson. I think synthetic oil does not break down much so oil changes should not be a priority for a long time. I'd be concerned about other engine issues from lack of running.

I also do little miles, and I change Mobil 1 + filters once a year.

Depending on your climate, moisture will build up in the exhaust system and under the car if you have long intervals between drives. Numerous seals throughout the oil system thta can dry up and shrink causing leaks, AC system should be run periodically. Varnish will develop in engine parts like injectors unless you use some gas additive. Again, a lot depends on the environment you keep the car in. Sounds like you should consider K44 additive. I've not used it but there was a thread recently on it that makes sense to use it to keep the engine clean. You may also want to consider parking the car over a carpet if you park over a cement floor now and don;t drive it much. It's amazing how much moisture permeates out of cement. I kept a collector quality 68 firebird stored in a garage for over a year. Completely clean frame rusted.

For 500 mi/yr, changing oil once per year is more than enough.

I agree with the once a year on oil changes. You should also drive the car a minimum of 20 miles a week, just to get the oil up to temp and remove any moisture that has entered the systems. You would be surprised how much moisture will collect from condensation, unless of course you have a temp controlled garage, and then you still have to consider seals drying out.. When synthetic oil was first introduced the claim from the maker was that the oil never had to be changed, just the filters. Then each manufacturer started putting it's own limits in the books, which is why there is such a disparity in reccomended oil changes.
