When set to Max AC (Big Snowflake pushed in), the blower surges as if the power is being momentarily interrupted. Has anyone else run into this problem?

Bobby-
My fan cuts in and out. Is that what you mean?. When you say surge that makes me think yours increases and decreases in velocity. Mine cuts on and off.
Are we the only ones who experience this??

Guys,
What are are describing can be attributed to a faulty A/C fan resistor. It is a temperature sensor which indirectly regulates the fan speed (hi and low). When it goes bad, the fan tends to blow intermittently and shut off. There a DIY on Robin's website that shows you how to change it out if you want (http://p-car.com/diy/fan), otherwise have a shop do a few simple tests to verify.
PM me if you have further questions. I've done the fan (and oil cooler) resistor replacements myself.

It cuts on and off, but just for a split-second, even when I'm driving a constant speed. The first one to solve this mystery wins a picture of "The Vinyl Lady"...

I've already replaced both of the ballast resistors, the oil cooler one and the AC evaporator one. It's not the evaporator blower--the blower I'm talking about is the one that blows cool air into the cabin.

You might have a dying HVAC relay. If you search for Randall G's discussion on A/Cs, heaters and that relay, you will find the info. If you can't find it, please let me know.

Is it the fan speed that's changing or just the airflow? Can you still hear the fan trying to push against a closed flap? There's a vacuum line that must be in place from the engine to the climate control system under the dash. Is the fan speed is constant when the AC's not switched on?

Actually, surging is not the best description. It is like the cabin air blowers lose power intermittently, just for a split-second, and only when on Max AC. At all other settings, the blower works perfectly. All of the flaps appear to work perfectly, too.

I have the exact same condition as BobbyT and I have also replaced the ballast resistor. I will take a look at the relay - sounds like a possibility

Here's a though. A snowflake button runs A/C at full speed. If you leave teh snowflake button alone and just run A/C on hight, does teh same stumble happen? If so, it could, indeed, be a button problem.

I may be wrong but I thought the snowflake button closed off outside air and recirculated cabin air at a very high speed (Mine is higher than just the highest fan speed alone). High speed with just the lower button in pulls in outside air at the highest possible fan speed.
