Best is that it comes with a built-in GPS and Aux connect for Ipod or my Nokia N91 (mp3)
With the clear sound, I installed a Nakamichi amp PA504 50watts RMS x 4. Also one of the lowest THD amp on the market. (was $1600 new, +/- $200 ebay)
In the cabin, I replaced the carton nokias with infinity perfect up-front, and Kappa in the back. Cosmetically, you cannot see the difference from the original install.
For the sub, the blaupunkt odsb 5000 is one of the slimmest ACTIVE-built-in Amp sub on the market. It pumps 100 watts, and cost $100. It slips right under the passenger seat, and you forget it. 30 x 21 x 8 cms . . .
Thanks for the details. I also picked up a TrafficPro at the closeout price to use as the basis of a stereo upgrade. Still need to decide on speakers and amp, and your subwoofer solution is a nice alternative to the Rod Birch sub enclosures. Thanks again

Mike, If I remember correctly, the Becker radios are not plug 'n play with the Pioneer Version CR-1 that we find in our MY95s. The CDCs are different animals as well.
I slightly modified the harness in my car when I installed my Traffic Pro (a Becker 220 chassis) a couple years ago. I don't have my file handy but I will check it out next week if you are interested.

I'll be getting my CDR-210 here in a bout a week. We'll see how it plugs and what is needed. David, I might need to pick your brain on it by then.

How do people take CR-1 out? Do we need special tools? Or a $6 bent wire universal Scosche tool from WalMart would do?

Mike, you can get the German radio remove tools, they are shaped like blunt Exacto blades. There is a little pin of either side of the chassis that has to be held in the center before you can push the radio out from the back. I used a jewelers scew driver the first time and it worked fine.

The TP came with a VW harness adapter but it there were a coulple leads reversed in the Porsche harness. Lot of good applicable info under "Traffic Pro".

Will the speed control for the spoiler work as the speed input to a CDR-210 stereo? I have a 1995, it did not have speed control with the original CR-1. The chasis doesn't have a wire going to the applicable pin. Can I just tap the spoiler wire and connect it to the chasis?

Dave

P.S. I may be dense if already explained) and not good at searching archives (I tried), but do I need to tap something for LCD illumination for the CDR-210 from a 1995 originally with CR-1?

Hi Polver.

Yes you can tap the speed wire at the spoiler. One place to grab the illumination wire is the light for the ashtray.

Geolab, thanks! That's very neat. It appears that I have a newer CDR-210, so I should be able to have the illumination available.

Now, I need to look at my connectors and see if I have to find the right size female flat plug to insert into the plastic connector.

Geolab, thanks, but it would be an overkill

However, if you tell me the right size and brand name, it'll make it easier to find.

I read Geolab's message off a Blackberry and I could not see the PDF. That is the bomb. I also ran my reverse signal from the CEB but I have a Tip.

Thanks, Geolab & Dudley.
It seems from the .pdf file that this is for 1996 993s and later. I have a 1995. Can anyone confirm it will still work as explained? Seems like illumination is a no brainer (since it can be tapped from the ashtray light wire). Also, if my CDR-210 has GAL in the menu, is that sufficient to confirm it is the new software? I don't recall what the manufacture date is (and I don't have the tools to remove it). I will have to get the tools to complete this mod. I bummed them off a local shop when I lived in Kansas City!

Dave, what do you mean by reverse signal?
And also, what connector did you use for the illumination?

Once I fish out my car from teh shop I might make an appointement to stop by

Mike, I installed a Trafffic Pro Nav unit. Same chassis as the cdr210/220. I soldered a splice in the ashtray light wire
