autobonrun
this was the reason for the post,
to look at the possibilities,
what could make the car spin hard to the right in a left turn?
something caused it to spin out of control and it seems there is some history of the lower control arm breaking or coming apart.

not sure if i will ever get to examine the car on a lift.
the insurance company has it now and it is not my car,
so i will wish my friend good luck with the settlement of value.
hopefully this will not become a more common problem with the 993,
makes me concerned about my own c4.
thanks again for your input!

I think everyone is looking forward to the answer. My car is going on an oval next month for some high speed driving and if something in the suspensions are breaking, it's a scary scenario.

One unexpected negative I've found over the last few years of doing my own work is I now know just how many critical parts there are that can cause problems. Before that I just took the car from the mechanic to the track. I guess ignorance was bliss so to speak.

Good luck to your friend in coming up with the answer.

I'm very thankful your friend is OK. Not much you can do when something important brakes back there. I lost a half shaft in my 73E in a turn and it was ugly. Fixable (expensive) but ugly.
I got knocked around pretty good but I was young and resilient.
Again, I'm very glad your friend is OK.

guess we will never really know the cause of the accident.
he crashed on monday 8-14-06 and the insurance adjuster made him an offer to total on friday 8-18-06, hard to believe he offered $39,200.
my friend accepted the offer on monday 8-21-06 and the adjuster hand delivered him the check to my office.
this was the fastest and fairest insurance adjuster i ever met!
no low ball game playing.
the 993s are really holding their value!

he is still pretty sore from the accident and probably will give it some time before he will be looking to replace it.
he did say that there is no car he would rather have then a 993.
for now, his honda mini van will do.

I had a blowout in my 968 on the RR once, it is amazing how much you spin! from what you are saying about the condition of the tire, my money is on a blowout and the control arms failing as a result of impact.

sure sounds like the rear lower ball joint failure that touf experienced recently.
this car had a completely stock suspension and probably had never been inspected.
maybe loose nuts finally gave way.
this should be a normal maintainace inspection point, maybe at every oil change.

And you guys laugh at the electronic goodies on the newer Porsches. Porsche put them in their cars just for reasons like this.
That's is just another ignorant statement...

According to this stupid statement...the newer Porsches will never have an accident because they have put electronic goodies in the new cars to stop this!

that's a miracle! Praise the Lord!

Exactly! WOW, electronics that can save you during a catastrophic failure like a blow-out or suspension failure......or maybe the electronics even keep those events from ever happening!

Glad to hear it worked out with the insurance and your friend escaped with only some soreness.
Is your friend married and does he have a large life insurance policy?
Does his wife know what a hack saw is???
