OK, time to open up another can of worms: Define "high mileage" in the context of our cars...

I have no idea. If it's cheap, maybe you'd like to pay mine for me?

OK, I suppose there may be someone out there who would pay that price. Maybe you. But the market prices I've seen would suggest nearly $40k for a 98 coupe tip with 93k miles is a dream. Lots of you guys like to put down the use of KBB and other similar services but the buying public uses them, whether you car flippers like it or not. You already know any of those services will place the value much closer to my estimate, but why be confused by objective data when you can find isolated data points that "prove" ridiculously high prices are the market norm.

"High Mileage" for resale? or "High Mileage" as in how far can these engines go? I'd be curious to hear who's heard of/seen the highest miles on a 993 (Maybe this should be a new thread?...)

I don't really view this crowd as being a lot of professional car flippers. On the contrary, it seems like most on this board have been here for awhile and still have the same car.

I will probably never 'flip' my car. Or at least I hope I don't.

From what I saw when I purschased my car 6 months ago, KBB and Edmunds bear no relationship to the actual price that 993's are selling for. I suspect this would be even more true for ultra-low mileage garage queens, but I was looking for a car that would become my daily driver. Even in the case of a higher mileage 993 the separation between KBB/Edmunds and real world-prices approaches 10K. Go figure. I eventually purchased a 1996 C4S with 79K miles with brand new clutch for 39K. I've put very little money into the car since. I felt like I got a great deal considering other cars that were available on the market at the time, but should be woefully disappointed in how much I paid based on KBB/Edmunds. Every other used car that I've purchased/sold has been much closer to the prices listed in these sources, but I believe the collectability of 993's may put them into a class outside of the scope for KBB/Edmunds to provide meaningful data.

FWIW - I had a dealer salesman tell me my 30k 96 993 would be given no greater than KBB dealer trade in value! And this came from a Merc/Porsche dealer. In the idiot, I mean salesman's defense, he was a Merc salesmen, not P-car. Still, that doesn't make it right! I really dislike ignorant salespeople.

Trading in a 993 would be like selling a snowball to an Eskimo.

Now if you would have taken him up on it, it would have made you sucker!

KBB, Edmunds, NADA-almost scary if an accident occurs and one has to say the same thing to the adjuster.

...and NOW I'm glad it didn't sell..

In other words, I only half-heartedly put it up for sale (was in huge turmoil over it)

....like that seller trying to give $5k more to buy back their former 993, I could see myself in a situation like that had I sold it... so I'm happy to keep my 993 thank you very much!

I have been very carefully following ebay prices for 993s -- 1996 through 1998 -- for years, ever since I bought my 'plain Jane' C2 from a local dealer in January 2003. The trend I see from dozens or even hundreds of cars selling on ebay is this: turbos are up -- suddenly -- as much as $10,000 (from $66-$67K half a year ago to $75-$76K right now), and C2s/C4s/cabriolets are BACK where they were about 3.5 years ago after having lost slowly but surely. NOTE that these numbers are for ultra-low to low mileage machines, say 7,500 to 26,000 miles on the odometer. Higher milesage reduces the selling prices. Mine is about to roll 32,000; I'm thinking hard about trying to latch onto that elusive 993 Turbo S with 26,000 on the odometer at around $115,000.
