OT: FIA, FOM, Bernie...??? Who Does What...???
I have been an F1 fan for some time, but I still do not understand how the sport works.....
From what I can tell F1 appears to be a three-legged animal with Bernie, FOM (Formula One Mgmt), and the FIA......
Does anyone have a clear understanding of how this sport runs, and who is responsible for what.....???
I think I was much happier when I tuned in on Sunday and forgot about it on Monday...... Alas, the curiosity bug has bitten.....

In a nutshell:
Formula 1's commercial rights are vested in FOA (which is owned by company called Alpha Prema), Bernie runs Formula 1 even though now he is not a majority share holder anymore (he used to be basically the sole owner of F1). F1 is regulated by FIA (President is Max Mosley).

FOA are the commercial rights holders, so they handle the TV etc.
FIA are regulators, not just for F1 but for many things, even non motorsport related.
Bernie is president of FOA (and don't forget FOM) because even though he doesn't own most of it any more he is trusted to know what to do.
I think it's all part of the fun - there's as much politics in F1 as there is racing or technology.

I have seldom missed a race live over the last two decades..........Bernie and Max run F1 with input from the team owners..........and all three think they are the guiding light for the future of the sports...........Bernie is all about making money......Max is all about power over the sport.........the manufacturers are all about advertizing!!!! Oh and in case I forget CVC a European Investment firm own the TV rights these days......Its a mire
