Alignment specs/Bruce Anderson
I am planning to have my car aligned this week and am interested in using the track specs in Bruce Anderson's 911 Performance Handbook:
Front:
+5 minutes total toe (in)
-2 degrees 10 minutes camber
Rear:
+10 inches (I think this is a typo and should be minutes) toe in per wheel
-2 degrees 10 minutes camber
So, two questions, one: can anyone confirm that the inches should be minutes on the rear toe, and two: any other spec suggestions out there, for a track/street (vs. street/track) setting? Not that interested in tire wear. Oh, I am running street tires (Bridgestone S03's) but am also considering R-compounds. Thanks!

TroyN, I am trying to find a shop to do my alignment and corner balancing. I've called 3R racing, Tire Source (I think out by your way) and Prestige (Dave Petitti (sp)). All of them are busy with the Grand Prix coming this weekend or booked and I was wondering where you were planning to get your car aligned?
Thanks- Jon

1) He certainly doesn't mean 10 inches toe. 10 minutes is reasonable.
2) That's pretty agressive camber for street tires. Might wanna go more like RS specs, unless you're really using the car primarily as a track car. Even if that's the case, I'd still stick with RS specs for street tires...just MHO.

Good point re: street tires, though I am currently at about -2 degrees front/-1.75 rear, and it works well. What I liked about the specs in Bruce's book is that they were specifically used with street tires (quoted Pirelli PZeros).
Jon, I am trying Gunbarrel Imports, they seem to service quite a few Porsches. Since I'm new to Boulder, except for Premier and 3R I hadn't gotten any specific recommendations. I called Tire Source and he said they wouldn't do a 993 because of the kinematic. We'll see!

When my car was more of a street/track combo car, I ran that alignment spec for a couple of years and was very happy with it for a suspension with stock mounts. Some have trouble getting all of the camber, but should get close depending on the car. I found that my tire wear was close to even with the track driving going after the outside of the tire and the street driving getting the inside. Depends on you mix of each.

Here are the specs Bruce sent me back in 1996 for my 993
Front:
Toe +5' (total)
Camber -2 degrees 10"
Caster 5 degrees 20 minutes +15'/-0
Rear
Toe (per wheel) +10' +5'/-0
Camber -2 degrees 10'
Everything else is standard setting.
This confirms that it is 10 minutes toe in per wheel up to 15 mins but never less than 10.

The stickier the tires, generally, the more negative camber you'll need. This is also true of the wheel/tire size. Smaller wheels with higher profile tires require more negative camber. Big wheels with rubber bands require less camber. I run 17" wheels on the track with Avon TechR tires which are basically slicks with 2 grooves in them (like the Hoosiers). Your alignment figures are about perfect for my setup.

You can get the stock US, Euro and RS settings at P-car.com.

RS is a good compromise for aggressive street and occasional track.
