Default PCH --> Portland to LA

Hey Gang,

So I leave real early Tuesday morning, flying from LA to Portland, to pick up my 997TT. Driving back to LA, enthusiast style.. Going to rumble down the coast.

I am looking for the must see's and must do's.. And what to avoid. I figure a two night trip. I hope to have papers signed and be on the road, leaving Portland, hopefully sometime by noon on Tuesday.

Where should I scream the highway and make up time?
Where should I hit the coast, go for dinner? etc.

I am not bringing nice clothes with me so EATING establisments are probably better recommendations that dining. I love Italian food and will travel for a good restaurant.

So please, help me out with my trip..

Whenever I drive to Seattle from LA, I always prefer taking 395. It's certainly not the most direct route, but it is the least crowded (by far) and very scenic in most places. The coast routes are really fun in the winter, but this time of year you'll be stuck behind miles and miles of motorhomes and rental Buicks. Cut across Oregon or Northern CA near Lassen National Park (there are some very fun/scenic twisties both ways) and head straight down 395.

Make sure you bring a good radar detector!

Cheers

I agree with jmarch, the 395 from it's starting point North of Cali is really neat and not many people take advantage of it. The 101 isn't too bad itself but I vote for the 395. Have a great time and uh yes, bring your Valentine (Radar detector) for sure with a lot of good tunes.

Agree with 395, but cut south east from Seattle to Richland, WA and then south on 395 or others through eastern / centeral Oregon. While in Richland call me and I will buy you a cold one for a look at the the new ride. :-).

Personally, I would take I-5 from Salem, OR to the Cali border. The PCH is beautiful, but I-5 goes right through the mountains with a lot of High Speed sweepers that are fun. I was through there over the summer with my family, desperatley wishing I was in the PCar. You'll make great time that way & really enjoy the drive. Once it straightens out in Cali, I would cut over to a coastal route.

If you're going to be in Portland this week you should definitely check out the Porsche Parade. Different events are being held every day, all week. The concourse today was great, 1st class.

Seth,

Oregon border, within 50 miles of CA. Very heavily patrolled. They love to get cash spending money from us Californians.

If you are in the Bay Area, would love to meet up, shake your hand, and buy you a cold one. May be a pic or 2 with my RUF. Just e-mail me at chunpng@yahoo.com.

Good luck and have fun.
