Default door check strap?

Anyone have any photos they can post of what it looks like from the inside of the A pillar?

Yes mine has broken , and yes I'm going to get it repaired, and yes it does look as if I'm going to have it re welded from the inside, so door off! Just curious to see what it looks like from the offending side.

Have a good weekend guys.....

Might be able to supply pictures for you tomorrow, (they were provided to me when I aked the same question). In order to do the fix, the front quarter panel will have to come off also. Mine's still broke, but there are good fixes available.

Thanks for the info, I've been told that the repair can be done by removing the door, not the wing/fender? In the post it mentions that the fender has to be removed, is this correct?

Just got back from the bodyshop, they are going to remove the door, to get at the back of the check strap, they will try to remove the door pins first, so they don't disturb the paint, if they are too difficult to remove they will have to undo the bolts and make good the paint around them afterwards.

Was told that I won't be able to see that the repair has been done, we will see!

I'm curious how much your body shop is charging for the repair? My drivers door strap is failing and my body shop wants $475 for the repair.

I paid about $100 to have it rewelded and touched up with paint in my prior 993. I believe they even took the door off (at least that's what they told me). It's like a 2.5 to 3 hour job.

It's almost too funny .... my driver's door strap post fell off today . Actually, it fractured vs falling off - it had obviously been previously welded, and poorly at that. The two eared flange has an ~ 40mm long oval tube attached to the backside - the function of which is not readily apparent, for the 'strap' that accordions into the door attaches to this piece with a serrated hinge pin.
Anyway, this jammed the door from closing, so I drove the pin out to allow the door to close and get back on the road. As to repair, it appears that with some clean up, the piece can be MIG tacked into position and TIG welded in place .... maybe without door removal.

The bodyshop guy said it was about 8hrs labour, so the £300 didn't sound to bad. I can post some pictures, but there isn't much to see. The check strap mount just makes the "sound" and you can see it move when it gets to the indents on the arm.

The shop said that they could run some weld in from the outside, on both sides, but said the better option cosmetically would be to remove the door and tackle it from behind. I'll post up the pictures once it has been done.

regards

Mine was TIG welded in place without removing anything, they covered all the surrounding areas before welding. Then I just used touch-up paint to paint the weld as Eric mentioned. $75 and 1 hour did the job. This is a piece of cake for any good welder.

Default Me too :(

I had mine repaired for $100 a couple of summers ago. This weekend it started up with the clacking noise again. Groan.

Reb's in Van Nuys, CA did mine for $50. I supplied the touch up paint. Three years later, still fine.
