Curb Rash repair with Wurth paint

I was thinking of repairing one of my wheels that has a rash.
I found the link about the NASA wheel repair.
http://www.bmwtips.com/tipsntricks/w...uff-repair.htm
But upon further research I found several people who claim the Wurth Silver Wheel Lacquer doesn't really match and that there is also a problem with a lip at the blending site where you tape off the damage area from the undamaged area. The NASA repair doesn't go into the lip issue.

Anyone actually done this DIY with success?
If so, any tips?

Jeff,
I've done it. I was pretty meticulous, but the Wurth paint doesn't quite match, and I wasn't that happy with the final result. You're better off using silver touchup paint with a brush from an auto parts store on very small scuffs. For bigger scuffs, take it to a place that refinishes wheels. A reputable wheel specialist (not a body shop..) can make your wheel look factory new for $150...

i did it and it was ok from 15 ft but not closer. The grain in the metallic paint is hard to get pefectly matched - and the color was slightly off.
I only did the damaged area - if you painted the whole wheel it woudl look better.
agree with Matt, though. I just took them to a wheel shop and they are good as new now.

I could never get the Wurth paint to match. Heard it was because it is now lead free and a slightly different color. Apparently you now need to mix two colors of Glasurit paint to get exact color. I tried buying those colors from the Glasurit directly, but need to buy two liters. After thinking that it involved matching two colors, it made more sense to send wheel out for refinishing. I had good luck with a local high end body shop to the the respray and it matches perfectly with other wheels.
