I bought one of these racks and threw it away. It was totally unstable, lots of bounce when the bike was attached. I even talked to the guy who designed it to be sure installation was done correctly. Not recommended at all.

Read this thread with interest as I'm a cyclist too. A roof rack for my C4S would be good for occasional use, but for everyday purposes I use my second car (Toyota Altezza wagon) With NZ weather it is nice to be able to keep my bike dry too on long trips!
I've just ordered a new bike - Carrera Estremo with 07 Record. It'll be my first Campag bike after many years with Shimano. Looking forward to it.

I will weigh in my vote as a mountain biker, Yakima rack works well. Easy on and off with no damage (so far) to rain gutter paint. Same rack has been in service for twelve years and three 911's. Only problem is wind noise, but rectified with a do it yourself aero modification.

I understand it was a custom colour option - not "speed yellow", but the Ferrari yellow.
Jet is a funny story....bought the car (realisation of a dream yadayadayada...) exactly one month later, lose job. Airline gone bust. New job, company have just adopted yellow paint scheme for aircraft. It must have been meant to be.
Subsequently re-equipped with Airbus A320s, but just one yellow one. Car's a keeper though.

The roof bars are the 'standard' gutter system rack from Mont Blanc. Same as Thule system - square bars.
The bike racks are Mont Blanc Barracuda and are excellent - easily the best I've used - the shaped fromt wheel holder means the bike stands in the rack on its own while you fix it more firmly. All others require you to use one hand to hold the bike.

Just kidding, but there is no way Dura Ace is better than Campy. I can still get replacement parts for my Super Record gruppo, and it's all rebuildable. Shimano is replacement time if anything breaks or wears. I go through it with my mountain bike.
BIC was a company that sold a modular rack system, I think it was either French or English. It has foot pads along with the gutter mounts, where the Thule and Yakima only attach at the gutters.

No offense but I can't imagine putting a bike on a 993... I know many of you do, but I couldn't. Too worried about messing it up in some way. The idea of having a cheap extra car to stick the bike into or onto sounds sounds like the best bet if you have the extra bucks.

We got a fancy bike rack for my wife's Acura RL, so fancy that we have no idea how it works. We'd been back to the store many times for a tutorial but weeks or months later when we're home and it's time to put the bike on the car, we're lost as to how to get it one there. We're going to sell it on Craigs list and get rid of it. My motto is if it doesn't fit in the trunk or rear hatch, it's not going in our car.
