Default Random misfires/ intermittent CEL

so a month ago, I had a CEL, code # P0300 Random misfires all cylinders, however this was during low gas tank, so i wrote that off as the problem.

two weeks ago the light comes on again, on my way to have it scanned two days later, the light turns itself off on the way there.

again it turns itself on a week later, and turns itself off the next day.

so I just read out the fault memory. P0300 random misfires all cylinders, P0306 cyl #6 random misfires, P0305 cyl 5 random misfires, P0304 cyl 4 random misfires.

The car runs strong at 57K miles. I just had the 60K done 2K ago. all three times, the light has turned itself on within 3 seconds of startup of the car. I cant figure out what is up. the car runs absolutely perfect, what is up!

I had a similar problem and it ended up being non-factory alternator belts. Went to the dealer and installed the proper one, have not had a problem yet (knock on wood).

looking in the archives of this issue, I feel you should know that I just had the clutch replaced at the 60K, when my tech told me that my flywheel is perfectly fine

I am going through the same thing...with a pending SMOG test. No lights for 3 days after clearing the "light", but won't pass due to readiness not ready or some other cryptic BS. I feel like Dustin Hoffman in MARATHON MAN trying to deal with this..."Is it safe? IS IT SAFE? (or say "Is readiness READY? IS READINESS READY?). Gimme some old points and feeler guage.... I'll show you READY. Sorry. A bit frustrated myself.

All I know is it runs strong with no sense of misfire. Just had it's 30k tune, new plugs, wires, caps, etc.. less than 1k on those. I would be happy to slap on a new belt if that's what would cure me. How do I identify a factory Alt belt? Tomorrows project. I have searched this issue of readiness. I have determined I am not ready to make sense of it. I will try a few of the assorted controlled driving methods before throwing in the towel to apparent higher powers (aka. dealer).

Obviously start at all the ignition-related items - belts being a culprit. Distributor belt?

"Is it READY?"

Good luck

you look at out cars and think how simple they seem, then when a simple problem like a non factory alt belt fuc*s the whole thing up. you realize how not simple they really are

Run some fuel injection cleaner thru the fuel system on a 1/4 tank of gas and you might be surprised that the misfire clears. Try Techron periodically to keep the system clean. Just an idea, it worked for me on misfire CELS. gary

and just how loose the aftermarket suppliers are with part tolerances.
