Cool 993 Engine undertray

Hi Guys,

I am in need of opinions. I just recently purchased a 95 993 C2 coupe. I am getting mixed suggestions about removing the engine undertray. I looked thru some of the old posts in the archives, some say don't remove it some say do. However these were older posts from 1999- 2000. What is the consensus now? Should I keep it on or remove. I have noticed there are a few more bits under the engine than my previous 964 that could be dinged by road debris, which is one of the arguments for keeping it on.

Thanks in advance.

Cabrio,

That is a great gif!!

Yes, please do a search. Discussed more times than the Kennedy assassination.

FWIW, though, take it off.

Admittedly a green (but not a good) first post. Searching is a most powerful tool when joining a forum-almost more than membership.

EDIT: My contribution is also a 993 favorite: Robin's 993/996 site

Thanks Guys. I'll keep searching. I've tried the archives and couldn't find anything except for some old posts from 2000. I'll go back and try again now that I know the time frame..

Welcome to the board Razar. Search is your friend as others have said but it takes a few times to narrow it down. Make sure when you go into advance search you select only the 993 board for the pertinent info. Here is a link to the most recent thread on this topic that will keep you busy for the rest of the night.

Thanks Andy. So I guess removing the tray for cooling outweighs the need for protecting the underside of the engine. As I have noticed there are a lot more pieces hanging under the engine than my previous 911's?

Sorry for the duplicate link. I was so impressed with Cabrio's cool graphic that I missed the link the first time.

That tray was put there to catch all the engine oil before dripping on the garage floor,
if you take it off you'll have to put rags down wherever you park!! Chris

I'm changing my position on this issue: Be certain to leave the tray ON! It will magically transform itself into a Diffuser at times, allowing you to then achieve top speeds of well over 200mph! You can not be without THAT when you want to be the first to arrive at the Lobby Court Lounge in The Benson Hotel!
