Default Motor Sound Air Box & Snorkel

I have the flame suit on so I'm prepared but I need to ask a simple question... I just got the factory snorkel from Gert and I'm about to install my RS tail but I have a quick question. Do I need to change the airbox cover from the motor sound airbox or do I simply remove the chrome extension on the motor sound box? It looks like you can pry it out and replace it with the snorkel. The chrome extension seems to have three or four tabs that will allow this piece to be released... No?

Thanks,

Jon

Its easily replaceable in any airbox lid, Motorsound or not. No worries

All you need to do is remove the chrome trim from the existing airbox and snap in the snorkel. I have done it twice now.

That is what I have done too. I'm not sure what compromise the motorsound side holes make, but the snorkel has to help. I have the RS tail also.

Thanks for the responses everyone. I think I can handle this DIY! Did anyone notice and sound difference?

To be honest the sound diffrence comes from the Motor Sound airbox itself and the mufflers. The high rise intake probably pulls cooler air. As far as a difference in sound I did not hear a difference

Are you referring to an Intake Trumpet? I've been thinking of getting one myself.
Is the intake facing up? When it rains, will the water pour into it?

First off if you do the cold air intake you will need a RS tail ot TT tail to make it work. If you have the movable spoiler the intake will not work because it sits above the decklid line. It does face upwards (toward the sky). There are 2 drain holes in the bottom of the intake that allow water to drain.

Thanks Mike. My car is equipped with a Gemballa Rear Wing. I'm just wondering whether those two holes are enough to drain all the water from heavy rain and to keep the water off the air intake.
I was running a Cup Airbox but after reading some negative feedback on it, I switched back to OEM Airbox now.
The part number of the trumpet is 993.110.360.51 right?

I've followed the threads about intake temp closely and made the decision to go with a trumpet for cooler air intake, and get my "rumble" from a different exhaust.
I ordered a trumpet fron Sunset about a week ago - they said it had to be imported first.
I'm just amazed at the increase in engine sounds I'm hearing with the Gemballa wing installed.

I've got a cold air trumpet on order from Gert as well. I would love to hear from anyone who's had any experience with this on their car in the rain...Thanks.
