Default Lodging near tracks

Where do people like to stay in Watkins Glen and at NHIS?

I just stayed at the Hilton garden inn in elmira/corning. It was very nice and you know what you are getting with the hilton. It is about 15-20 minutes from the track but not a bad drive at all. There are other places closer to the track but I had my wife with me and I know they can be a bit rustic if you know what I mean.

Depends on whether you are on the Track Rat budget ('I don't care as long as its clean, near the track, trailer parking, Internet connectivity that works, and cheap') or the "My wife is coming along" budgt.
For WGI - Track Rat - I like the Longhouse and the Falls Motel. Have had good and bad expereinces with Seneca Lodge.
For NHIS - I am usually at the Red Roof; no charm but I don't care.
There are lots of other choices but these are a good start.

For WG I use The Falls Motel if on the Track Rat budget....recently remodeled/added on to and clean, closest to the track, and they opened a Pub last year. Also one of the least expensive at $75-$85/night. If my wife is along, as will be this August, we stay at The Inn at Glenora Wine Cellars, on the lake about 8 miles North of Watkins Glen, a few years old, beautiful views, nice restaurant....even room service! Not the cheapest.

Thx guys. Good to have both. I'm usually Track Rat, but occasionally wife joins as well.

JPS,

I like the Falls as well. My gf and I stayed there last year and was pleasantly surprised. The owners are very nice and even provide some breakfast/snack to bring with you to the track. Filled up our cooler with ice too!

When are you going to the Glen? I'll be going with Metro in Aug.

Watkins = Seneca Lodge. Great bar and very nice restaraunt. PITA to get reservations though. Last time I did it, the process was to send a request via snail mail.

Regarding the Seneca.....enjoy the great bar and restaurant, but stay elsewhere!
