I am sadden to hear this news as well. I believe Ray had everyones true respect here on Rennlist. My prayers are with his family. I would hope that his family will somehow find this thread so they will know how much he will be missed and how much he contributed to the Rennlist community.

Very sad to hear about this. Ray was one of the good guys. Those that didn't read past his initial salvo missed a lot of good information.
Condolences to his family.
Rest in peace Ray.

I am shocked. Met Ray at a number of the local Porsche club events when we lived in Pittsburgh. He was a nice guy! Even helped me with info about finding a Porsche when I was looking for one back then.
Life is short.

I'm sorry that I haven't heard anything else at this point (I just got home and checked email and posts). I met Ray 19 years ago when I first joined PCA, and had seen him at autoX occasionally (though not recently) at inter-regional events. When I got my 993, and then found Rennlist, it was refreshing to see someone that I knew on-line, and who was also very candid and witty in his posts. At this point, we're heading toward 70 posts in a few hours and almost 1500 views. It's testament to how well he was thought of here, and proves the saying [paraphrased] that you can judge a man's worth by the number of people who show up at his funeral.

His comments will be missed.
My most sincere condolences to his family.
Never met him but he reminded me of a senior engineer I worked with right after I graduated. If I asked him a question, any question, his typically response was "what the heck do you think?" However, without fail he would always come back in 30 minutes or so to help me; after I had made a real attempt to find the answer myself. Funny, that extra 30 minutes usually gave me the time I needed to find the answer myself.
Very cool looking back on it.

A true friend is a person who can get in your face and tell you the truth. A great teacher is one who can help you to figure it out for yourself instead of doing it for you. I never met Ray or got taken to the woodshed by him. But he was a friend and a teacher. God bless, Ray, and condolences to your family.

Wow, completely shocked and speechless. I was just reading one of his recent "smart" remarks and as usual, in total Ray character. Really sombered my mood. All the best to his family (besides all of us). Perfect example of why life has to be lived as soon as you can and enjoy as much as possible.

Like others said I thought it was a joke. Pittsburgh is one of the truly small, big cities here in the USA. Really, 1 degrees of separation in most cases. I just saw Ray last month in a DE school up in Watkins Glen. He was one of the teachers. He definitely was not a crotchety as when I posted my first new topic on Rennlist. I distinctly remember the start of the post "tsjoel whoeverver you are....." I remember feeling compelled to explain the TS in front of my name because I thought he was truly confused. I remembering giggling when I saw that same phrase in front of his next post to a newbie. I would always open a thread if I saw that he was the last one to post just to get a laugh. I remember introducing myself at a DE and mentioning to him that I knew him from rennlist... you should have seen his face... eyes rolled back and head thrown back. He will be missed
