Default First Road Trip

Just got back from my first road trip in the 993. I left Thursday morning at 4am from central Illinois for upstate NY. I went to Watkins Glen for my annual outing with some of the guys I've been going with for the last 9 years. Round trip was 1600 miles and a lot of challenging weather. It rained cats and dogs the last 3 hours of the trip to NY and the C4 proved invaluable as we kept up the 75-80mph pace in the rain without any worries. It was also valuable in getting out of the muddy campsite on Sunday! Truth be known, I love driving this car in the rain as much as in the dry. Which was good because it never stopped raining until Sunday night after all the races were done. Three days camping at the track in the rain has become too common for this outing but it was still a great first trip. Lots of racing (Grand American, Indy Pro Series, IRL, Historic F1) and time to see old friends.

Throughout the trip I became more impressed with this car as the miles mounted. I've done this drive in a lot of cars and felt as confident with the reliability of the 993 as I have any of the VWs or Hondas I've done it in. It was also great to have so much seat time in a day (746 miles, 11 1/2 hours each way) to learn all of the sounds and feels that the car feeds back to you. And to top it off I got 27 mpg. So the fuel savings will help off set the speeding ticket I got at 6:30am on Thursday.

Here are a few pics from my weekend. Hope you all had as good of one as I did.

A few other sights from The Glen. Milka Dunno was very gracious and took some time to talk with us. Nice that the drivers in GrandAm don't have such big egos that they can still take time with the fans.

Probably enough for now. There are a few hundred more were these came from. Hope you like them.

Looks like you had a great time even though it was nasty weather. Thanks for the pic's. Now I'm looking forward to the Petite Lemans. Nothing like walking through the paddock and taking it all in...
