I go one step further and I place the removed wheels under the car. I had jack stands that tilted over once.
I also had Jack failure and I nearly got my legs caught under the car while working on brakes.
A bit off topic but I have this unforgivable act of peak stupidity that's related!
I bought a 73 Jag E-Type V12 in 1976
Beautiful car in new condition. First stop dealership for complete change of fluids,
I watched a guy place the jack under the car and I saw the drivers seat moving closer and closer to the headliner till it almost touched.
I won't get into the detais but ambulance and police was involved.
Always double check the position of the cup before lifting.

I got a sick feeling in my stomach just thinking about that.
