TJ would overfilling freon cause other issues? I posted previously on my circulation issues and got zero feedback - two issues are defrost blow hard, stops etc and no outside air in fresh air mode but works with circ button on. A/C works fine however. At wits end. sorry about hijack but you seem to know about this stuff and I am having one of robins symptoms (fresh air). Tx

If you leave the car in the sun, it would take about 10 minutes before you feel the cold.
The 993 is the only Porsche that actually had good air in. All the 70's and 80's had many issues.
One of the main problems was that the long lines from the front to the back where always leaking.
My current 993 is Met Black and I'm in South Florida. It's always garaged so it never gets hot unless I stop somewhere. While driving it's always freezing. When buying a car in Florida the main question is "Howz the air?" common responce from a dealer is "Ice Cold Air!"
They never tell you that within 10 miles it will leak out all the freon.
You'll see many car ads for sale say "Air is Ice Cold but needs a refill." Yea.... right.
Robin all I can say to you is find a better shop. It should work well. Chris

rkass - thats a tough one - as slant mentions above, maybe you need a new CCU. If you have a buddy in RI, perhaps you can swap units and see if the problem goes away. See my DIY on how to remove the CCU - all it takes is a heavy duty coat hanger. For that matter, it might be worth pulling and checking the electricl plugs in the back... It could also be some of the baffles broken - either rattled loose or vacuum lines to the actuators disconnected. It will probablyt require you to dig into this further to diagnose. If the AC is cold, and compressor is not cycling, I doubt its a freon issue....

If you have a spare, I hope this is the issue. If not, its alot of coin to replace the CCU..... Let us know how it turns out. inspect the plug in the back and might be good to clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner. Maybe its a bad connection......

I only turned on the AC like twice since I got the car 5 yrs ago and I think it still works fine. Is it a good practice to turn it on once in a while to keep the parts lubricated? My 2004 truck's manual says to turn it on at least once a month.

Same thing is true for any HVAC system on a house - it keeps the compressor lubricated. On house HVAC you can monitor start up currents on the motor to determine how hard it is to turn over. A compressor that is going bad, requires more amps.

Well.. after 10 hours of hard work by TJ my 993's AC is finally back up to par! Of course there is comparison with the water pumper's A/C but it is working pretty good!
Bad news is that of the two years that I lived in FL there were some mold build up in the evaporator core area, so the after driving the 993 with the A/C on full blast for a while I was getting bad allergic reaction. So now I am allergic to my 993! Go figures, if it is not one thing it is the other.

Check the ballast resistor on the condensor fan. The fan should run in low speed mode with the AC on. If it cycles on and off of high speed it could be that the low speed circuit is dead due to a bad resistor.

Robin - didnt that mold killer work?
Maybe an AC shop can pump some killer in it for you?! If not, try rigging up something to get the stuff down inside the airbox - I was thinking that you could fish a tube of compressed air/bleach/water mixture into the fresh air intake or thru the drain under the car.
Is the AC still blowing cold?
