I think I see where the Cayman designers got their inspiration - it would seem that VW-AG and P-AG are colluding to standardize foglight design across their entire model lineups, starting with their mid-range models... I guess they figure if we see them enough, we'll start to like them?

pcar964,
I will never like the fogs. I think the last time we did this your statement sumed it up.

The visual difference between the old cars and new cars? I think it's a clear, designed vs stylized. The original 911 shape was a great design, which is why it never looked old or dated. The new cars, they rely on sharp angles, air scoops, little bulges, etc.... so you basically have an uninspired design covered with little details that keep it looking "new" or "modern" for a couple years, which is what the japanese and american carmakers have been doing for years. Porsche is now following the same strategy, which seems to be paying off big time in terms of sales volume. Personally, I think they look like any other homogeneous sports car on the road.

I like Boxsters. I owned one of the first ones. A Cayman is a Boxster coupe with a slightly more powerful engine (and ugly fog lights), period. Aside from pure corporate greed, it makes no sense to price The Cayman S several thousand $$ higher than a Boxster S.
Interestingly, the new BMW M Coupe (330 hp, by the way) lists for $2K less than the Z4M Roadster, as it should be.

I just found it interesting that the foglights (which were the subject of so much controversy here on RL during the Cayman launch) have now become very common!

hey, cayman has its share of problems such as wet sump, no lsd, fugly lights and SUV ride height, but out of the box, it's a very capable car on the track, it's not a GT3, but one should really drive it hard on the track before any negative comments are thrown at it. you be surprised what it can do. and at 60k (yes, if you are good, you can get them at 60k, i got them less than that)it's one hell of a bargain.
before i get flames, i am comparing 60k new cayman with other new cars. comparing a 60k new cayman vs an older 911 used is not fair. if one must compared used. you can most likely have a cayman for 30k in three years and at that price, even a better deal.
