Default Which is faster? 993 turbo or 996 GT3 MkII?

I have driven both cars and both seem to be pretty fast. It would seem that the 996 GT3 is slightly faster. Looking at the bhp and tourque numbers the 993 turbo has higher numbers. But the 996 MKII GT3 seems faster. Is it because of weight difference?

Opinions on both cars would be great.

I don't know, but weight and gearing are a big part of the equation that gives the answer.

Interesting decision. I chose the 996 GT3 over the 996TT. I would however love to have a 993 TTin my stable.....

993 TT: 3490 lbs, 408 hp = 8.55 lbs/hp
996 GT3 (MK II): 3043 lbs, 381 hp = 7.99 lbs/hp

Not even that close, GT3 is faster, not only on corners, but on straight line too.

Weight is a big thing.

For example, take 300 lbs out of that 993 TT and you're down below GT3 numbers at 7.82 lbs/hp.

I think the weight of the 993 TT is 3309 lbs. In the US, the 993TT is rated slighly lower at 400 HP, yielding 8.275 lbs/hp, still giving the 996 GT3 a slight edge. The 993TT has a huge torque advantage, which makes the 993TT easier to drive fast around town (don't have to rev the snot out of it to go).

Don't get me wrong... I love the GT3 as a real "drivers" car.

GT3 may have the edge in power-to-weight, but not in torque-to-weight. From the magazine tests, the 993TT seems slightly quicker in a straight line.

Yes, and the TT is much quicker in a straight line if you live at high altitude...

With a simple ECU remap and a set of K24 turbos for a total of $2500 the TT will be much faster. Add decent suspension and the track will be no challenge.
The GT3 is almost maxxed out where it stands stock. Grant is right, at altitude the GT3 will need maybe 50HP more.

Not after Bob gets through with your TT. For some reason, I feel the TT is faster. But you would be a better judge.

Luis - I found 3 cars that I am considering. Just tinkering with what each will cost and the equipment and featuers on them. Probably have it nailed down in the next few days. Will post pics when I pick her up.
