That's an Ariel Atom with batteries... hardly a "new" car... just a rather radical sports car with an electric motor in place of the normal gas engine.

I love how they promote these things as "green", yet still use/rely on electricity from power stations burning other fossil fuels.... sheesh!

Goes bloody quick though... there's video of the "drag race" here: http://wrightspeed.com/

That's fine & dandy but I want to race him in a 4hr enduro, then let's see how quick he can either recharge or change out the batteries...........LOL

So all he did was remake an Ariel Atom in electric form. Yaaaawn. It would be cool if only it were original.

Interesting nonetheless. Thanks for the link.

100 miles? Then what do you do if you haven't reached your destination? And the market for such a sports car is not what I would imagine in terms of sustaining production. Why not partner with a large firm and integrate economies of scale into producing a little city car like the Smart or the VW polo. I would think that would sell a lot better than a tracktoy with batteries.

Why do all the new tech cars that are supposed to "save the planet" look like a POS. I'm with Scott I'll keep my 993. After 100 miles what do you do throw a new set of Duracells in it. I don't care if gas is $5.00 a gallon I stay with a P-car. Just venting my car(Blackhorse) is pissing me off today and I'm about ready to kick the crap out of it. I'm done and off to

Mike

BTW all is good back to work on Monday

I just had to walk by the global warming teenage petition gatherers outside the grocery store. As usual, they focus on the 80% that are not causing the problem. I did not feel guilty ignoring them and hopping into my grocery getter 993.

Michael Crichton, if you have read "State of Fear", thinks they are full of that brown methane producing substance.

Yup- while I try to respect the environment, no amount of argument toward electric only is going to help me forget about all the extra SO2 being dumped in the air from the power plants (less efficiently) converting a fossil fuel to an automotive energy source. What does CARB care about that? All that smog/acid rain/etc. is blowing elsewhere (NIMBY). A little simplistic, but generally true.

If you really feel guilty, there are those "eco credit" organizations, where for a certain amount of cash, the greenies offest your car's emissions by planting trees, funding clean industrial projects, etc. terrapass charges you $49.95 for a '96 993 (manual) driving 8k mi. a year (hurry, they having a 10% off sale and raffle for a solar backpack! ).

And just wait 'til they want to start dumping, burying, burning, recycling all of those huge batteries.....in your back yard. Electric isn't an alternative fuel, it is an alternative way of using petroleum, with the added bonus of a deadly waste product!
