Just filled up; $60.48 @ $4.26 per gallon for 93.

A friend in the Isle of Man who has older Turbo and new '07 997 on order pays £1.99 a litre for 98 Ron. Do the math.

NOT

That's cheap. I was just in Belgium and Italy, fortunately with a 1.9L diesel rental. About $70 to fill up, but it went almost 600 miles even with my lead foot.

Could Bush just cut to the chase and colonize Iraq, Iran and Venezuela and get the uncertainty out of the oil markets? If you're going to be an imperialist, be an IMPERIALIST.
Where's Teddy Roosevelt when you need him??!

trust me, I know we've been spoiled by cheaper prices for years..

Last year when we were at Leman's ... even the Diesel Fiesta ended up costing $85 USD to fill up when it was in fumes! (and that car has a small tank too)

I concur and I do enough traveling to know how good we have it in other ways too. Unfortunately, most Americans think they have a birthright to cheap gasoline. I think it's way too cheap here and we have zero incentives to conserve.

Where indeed:

"Behind the ostensible government sits enthroned an invisible government owing no allegiance and acknowledging no responsibility to the people. To destroy this invisible government, to befoul the unholy alliance between corrupt business and corrupt politics is the first task of the statesmanship of today."

You may be right about incentives, but think the gas is too cheap? The only reason Euros pay is due to the local gov't taxes. Market forces - basically speculators on petroleum futures - react to news on potential supply shortages or gluts - they dictate prices on a minute-by-minute basis. I'm a believer in the invisible hand of market forces to drive prioe. We dont need you or another politician telling us that "we dont pay enough" for gas... Exxon Mobil is making ~9 cents a gallon profit, the feds are making 19 cents/gallon. Do you suggest that government should artificially bump prices up and line their own pockets with feel good pork-barrel projects or should the money be diverted to Exxon Mobil?

I argue that prices are too high b/c that jackass in Iran keeps spewing his nuclear rhetoric.

Your thoughts that it is a birthright might be partially true. If you correlate GDP or innovation (patent filiings on technology) to petroleum consumption, you will find that there is a correlation. Petroleum is the fuel of innovation and production. We are now reaching a point where India and China may exceed US consumption of petroleum on an annual basis. It is tracking the GDP of their economies. Maybe a little jealousy to spin it the way that we waste gas here in the US...

When I was in Zurich last year, I saw plenty of V-12 maybachs, full size land rovers etc. The weathy families could care less what the price per gallon/litre of gas is. If they like it, they are going to drive it. Bumping up prices just hurts the middle class and below. I would argue that this hurts innovation.

I paid US $2.35/gal for Biodiesel today. Just when is the road-going Audi R-10 going to be available?
