Hi all,
Anyone know of a good independent shop in this area? I'd like to have an inspection done on a 993 in Davidsonville.
I'd also like any opinions on a fair price for it:
- 1997 993 Guards Red/Black
- almost 88k miles, two owners
- a few mods: H&R coilovers, front/rear cup sway bars, rear RS drop links, adjustable strut tower brace, Maxflo, B&M short shifter.
- 18" Ruf wheels, new Bridgestone S0-2's, fresh oil.
- couple other things, 996 shifter, pedals.
The owner seems pretty straight forward and says the car has no issues and has been well cared for, also says he has all records since new. All original paint, no bodywork, no smoke, no oil leaks, etc. I have seen pictures and it looks to be in great shape. In fact, the interior looks surprisingly good considering the mileage. He says it has a couple rock chips but I could not see them in the pictures. Carfax looks good though it says it was sold at auction before the current owner had it. Owner says the dealer that had it went bankrupt and auctioned all the cars and he bought it from another dealer. (?)
If a PPI checks out, what would you think to be a fair price? I keep reading about top-end rebuilds/SAI etc., around this mileage.
Any input would be greatly appreciated. I have pictures, but have no idea how to post them.
Thanks!

Thanks for the quick replies. Sounds like Tif is the man. I'll give him a call in the morning.
Any other opinions on a fair price for the car, assuming a clean PPI?

So it turns out Tif is the guy that works on the car for the current owner. I'm trying to determine if this is good or bad. The shop says they haven't worked on the car in almost a year.
Think I will get an unbiased opinion from Tif? Or should I find another shop? If so, anyone know of another good shop in the Annapolis area?
Thanks!

Tiff has a great reputation, but I've been burned by having a PPI at the same shop where the car has been worked on and where the owner has a relationship with the reputable mechanic. I'd look for true impartiality if possible.

Tif is definately trustworthy and won't let business history or friendship get in the way of an honest assessment of a car. Take it from my experience. I have known Tif for many years and had him sevice several of my cars including a 1993 turbo I sold a few years ago. He did the PPI on that car and held back nothing in the inspection. He found multiple items that I did not find during my own personal inpection including every little oil leak the car had, a leaking power steering system, several electrical problems, and a few other problems including issues with the compression and the turbo. Actually cost me the sale
. If you are paying for the PPI, he will tell it like it is.

If you want to go somewhere other than Tif, another shop in the area would be Turbo Performance Center...Jessup Maryland which is north of Davidsonville. Mike Levitas certainly has built his reputation over the years. One other choice would be At Speed Motorsports...I don't know as much about them though. Let me know if you are interested in more contact info.

Well, Tiff is my guy for all my car issues. I have two car at his place now, and I don't like to waste my hard earned $$$. I said that to say, I feel he's honest and trustworthy. Paul is his secretary or front end person and he is very professional and pleasant. Tiff is in business to make money, and he make money repairing exotic cars. If your willing to wait, because the lines can be long. HE'S THE MAN!!!

Unbelievable. Tif wouldn't be able to look at the car for another month or so. After hearing such great things about him, this is really disappointing. I think he's a bit too popular, and very backed up.
Wait - I have an idea! Ms Kita, can you tell Tif that you don't mind a slight delay in finishing your car, so that he can perform a PPI on the one I want?
Thanks for the responses.
